Hot water switch lamp is red

Hello all,
My 1998 2570 model which has been virtually problem free for over 12 years now has a problem with the hot water heater. When you press the switch to turn on the heater it starts right up and runs until the water is hot, but when it shuts off the switch lights up red showing there is some sort of problem. You can turn the swith off and the light will go out which is normal, and then turn it on again and the heater will come on and run. When the water is hot the heater turns off and the red light comes on again. Any idea on where to start looking? Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sure some of the "techy" guys will be here sometime soon and give you some ideas on what to check.

Hi jmiskovs

I’m assuming by your wording this unit is running on gas when this fault occurs correct?

Can you find the model number/serial of the unit and post? I want to make sure we are talking to correct vintage Atwood.

Also any chance of posting a pic of the inside of the HW heater and your vintage of flip switch/fault light?

Does your unit have direct spark ignition? Or do you have to go light the pilot light?

There are a few versions of the Atwood HW heater out there and need to better know which vintage you have so what I tell you makes sense. I do not know in 98 which one they used and even then in some years the model changed.

Hope this helps

John
