hot water heater questions

I have just purchased a 2002 T1950 and so far I am very happy with the camper, but I have a couple of questions about the Hot water heater I'm hoping someone can help me with, first it's a gas/eletric heater but I cannot find the electric switch it's usally on the unit itself but not this one how do I turn off the eletric? also when using it this passed weekend I noticed alot of black sort on the outside vent and in the main tube, the unit worked fine just not sure what would be causing this?

Most all of the 2002 vintage water heaters had the switch mounted to the black box, on the rear of the unit. The switch is marked as "B" in the following picture..

The soot sounds like a blocked burner, or burner tube. Here's some snippets from the Atwood manual..

JohnB is on a distinguished road
EMD_Driver pointed you to the right spot. And the soot is generally an air adjustment.

Need more help, let us know
