What year trailer do you have? Do you know if it's gas only or a gas/electric combo?

HI I think you need to replace the thermocuplar, sounds like its lost its gas inside of it which when heated up opens the gas valve.

Have replaced the thermocoupler and the pilot lite goes out after it heats the hot water heater. Is there something else I need to do for it to stay on.This is our first camper. Very new to camping.

YES, there is one more thing to replace and that is the thermostat control. it is where
the thermocouple connicks to it has a dial on it that turns on the gas it may say warm
to hot. when it reaches temp. shuts off gas and pilot stays on.
