Happy Camper treatment

This was recommended here. I find many online dealers who carry it (none local) . Kind of confusing. Where's the best deal on Happy Camper water treatment?

Yes, thanks, I found it online w/ reasonable shipping. Is this a powder ? Will freezing hurt it or is that OK?

The only place I found it was online. They must not have a big distribution network yet. Not to mention the fact, that the "Big" companies always push more chemicals and steer you away from natural solutions.

The happy camper is simply something that works. Bill (Trailblazer) gave me a sample at Buttonwood and I tried it. After using it the first time, we no longer had ANY black tank odors and I no longer see any solids when I dump the tanks.

Another benefit is that our tank sensors now work!

It is a powder and has a measuring scoop in the can. I left it in our camper all last winter and so far this winter... It still worked all last summer...

Yup, ours too. Have to thank JohnB for this one. He gave me a small packet of Happy Camper at the Western NY M&G a couple of years ago and said it would clean our sensors. I followed the instructions and was shocked the next day when I dumped and the sensors read empty for the first time since we had bought the rig.

Me and my strange humor. I picture SOC members slipping small packets of "Happy Camper" to each other and the raised eyebrows of suspicious onlookers .... if only they knew !!

This was the original site that use to be the only place that sold it. Happy Camper - Odorless Holding Tank Treatment Black and Grey Water

However now many places sell it. The tank sensor cleaning Bill was referring to is their Extreme Cleaner. It is a little different then the regular tank treatment. I used it to de-scum the top of the gray tank. Trailblazer was next door at the Western M & G and hey, us Sunliners share stuff... We where yak'ing about "stuff" and he said he had a sensor issue. It was the perfect place with full hookups to do the treatment. He filled the tank at night, treated and then I think dumped the next AM. The next morning things started working.

I found the Happy Camper product back in 2003. I used it for severel years then tried SeaZyme. Sea-Zyme Solid Waste Treatment - Toilet Paper & Chemicals - Toilets - Plumbing & Sanitation - Downwind Marine

And it works good too but I have switched back to the Happy Campers. Both of these work in your house to to clear slow running drains. Mix some up in warm water, let it dissolve and then pour down the sink drains or shower to help clear slow running drains.

Since I some times have to clean up the tanks at home and we are on an aerators septic tank I had to use the natural biodegrade type treatments. Some use different tank products and some use none.

I have never had a black or gray tanks sensor stay stuck on. Did have a fresh tank sensor stay stuck on but that was a wiring problem...

So Happy Camping....

John

PS. The cold has not affected mine. It is a dry powder and I tested it down to 0 degrees so far... It lives in the camper all year.

Debbie, thank you for the info. I needed to get some more for the season and will check out the prices.

And yes, do not dump an entire scoop full down the hole... I mix it up in a container with a lid on it and some water, shake and then lift the flush pedal to fill the bowl with some water, add Happy Camper soultion and then flush. And rinse the container.

Heads Up!! If you shake the container with the lid on, as you have to, hold on the lid tight! Think shaking a Coke or Pepsi as there is some pressure that builds. So shake gentle until you get the hang of it.

And Warmer water seems to fizz more pressure. Ask me know I know this..... Now I shake with the container down in the bowl in case it "comes a fly'in out"...

Also just passing it along in case you did not know, it is advisable to put about 3 gallons of water in the bottom of the tank when you start camp. About a 1/4 to 1/2" in the bottom of the tank. I use 3 gallons as that is what my water can is.

This helps float "stuff" and not create a pile right over the flush hole. Flushing solid waste into a dry tank bottom is not a good thing....

Happy Camping...

John

Thanks John,

We're learning all these lessons before we make a big mistake and end up in deep... well.. you know !! Not the most pleasant aspect of camping, but necessary to learn these things beforehand. I guess it becomes routine after a while, but at first it seems kind of gross to the point we may hike it on over to the bath house we we can. Hopefully the Happy Camper stuff will take a bit of the "ick" factor out of this chore ! I appreciate you and the others being upfront with info about this so we can learn from experienced RVers.

Tom & Debbie,

I basically "solo" rv'd since 1996 to 2009 when I met Gary, and trust me, dealing with our RV septic systems is NOT a big deal, just a learning process. As for using the campground facilities, ain't no way when I have my own. Now once in a while "if" I come across that campground with a "SUPER" bath house, I "might" scope out the showers, and "if" they meet my expectations, I "might" consider using their shower just so I could run as much water as I wanted, but now theirs would have to be pretty darn nice for me to leave the Sunline.

Kitty
