I wanted to share a solution I came up with to secure a window screen that kept coming out, incase others may have a similar situation.
We noticed a problem with one of our window screens last time out camping that when we opened the window, the screen would fall in. Upon a closer inspection of the screen, I noticed that the top of the screen frame was about a 1/16 inch narrower than the window frame causing it to fall in when we would open the window.
The screen fits good on one side, which keeps the screen in place when the window is closed
But on the other side it doesn’t fit into the frame, which causes the screen to fall in when the window is opened.
My first thought to fix this was to put a metal spring wedge on both sides (there’s one on the side that doesn’t fit). My thought was this may center the screen and allow it to fit better. But I soon realized that centering the screen wouldn’t work.
Then I took an idea from our storm door on our house, which has replaceable window and screen that is held in by screw clamps.
I decided to make a clamp. I used 2 standard curtain rod wall hooks.
I snapped off the hook and painted them white.
I attached them to each side of the window frame using the screw near the top of the screen.
Now the screen is held secure and we can open the window without having the screen fall in.
