EZ - Flex upgrade

I am going to do this upgrade whenever this snow decides to melt.

I have a 2001 T2570.

I have looked on Dexter's site and they list two, one for 33" axle centers and one for 35" axle centers. The 33 is for axles up to 6000lbs and the 35 is for axles up to 8000lbs. The 26" length for double eye springs is the same for both.

Does anyone know which kit I would need, without me working my way through the snow up at the storage place, to measure the axle center?

Plus, do they mean a combination weight of 6000 for the axle weight, or each axle?

I know that a 2004 T2499 and a 2004 T310SR use the K71-652-00 kit. That is the 6,000# rated unit. The 2499 is a 7,000# GVWR camper and the T310 a 10,000#. The 6,000# is what the EZ flex is rated at per side. So it can handle up to a 12,000# axle set. The 8,000 is for a 16,000# axle set.

The 33” or 36” axle spacing, well I have a good hunch that it is for sure not the 36” spacing on your camper. And even if you go out and measure from axle to axle it may not even end up as 33”

Sunline for reasons not known, at least yet, used shorter springs. And then even in the standard springs that Dexter makes there are 3 lengths for a nominal 33” spacing.

What you need to check is your actual equalizer size. The EZ flex needs to make that bolt pattern.

See here on my prior T2499 the equalizer.


And here I put the K71-652-00 one for my T310 over the top of it to check the hole spacing.


Your looking for a 5.70” dimension on your existing rigid equalizer between the toggle links. That is slightly under 5 3/4” The next size up one, for the 36” spacing is 7.67” which is a lot different. Now your nylon bushings are most likley worn so if you are doing precision measuring it could be a little shorter or longer, (0.030 to 0.050 ish”) due to the wear in the bushings. Also to make sure you do not have a odd equalizer, check the vertical height too. My T310 had an Alko Equalizer and it was not the exact same size as the Dexter ones. I was able to get around the issue but point being, if the dimensions do not add up, come back to us.

This much as a heads up, you will need a healthy C clamp or some form of ball joint tool C clamp to press the new bushings in. My 3/4" ACME thread C clamp was just barely had enough oomph to press them in. A 1” thread C clamp or ball joint tool will work well.

I did read your post, that is what made up my mind to tackle it myself. I have your article as a shortcut on my desk top.

I guess it best to go up and take some measurements before ordering.

Till this snow melts, it will be a few weeks before I can tackle it anyway.
