Exterior Shower Leak Repair w/photos

We discovered a leak under the kitchen sink while out last week. I was able to see the location by removing the cabinet drawers. I tried some duct tape to jam it up for a while but it was still drippy, so tonite I removed the outside shower door/faucet assembly for best repair access.

I disconnected the leaky tubing and cleaned up the caulking mess and now I'm thinking a few things over.

First... do I even want to repair as it was since I never use this outdoor shower? I could simply screw on a plug type fitting, and be done with the leak. But then I think about preserving value by repairing as original.

Lets presume the complete repair for now. I have a few questions for anyone whose had dealings with this same system on their rig.

What do I buy to replace the leaky tubing since it has a flange it must be more than just tubing right? What is the caulk used between the door assembly and the camper body...it's sticky goup but what am I looking for in particular?.

Hopefully the photo add clarity for those who might reply with recommendations.

That tube looks amazingly like a bathroom sink supply line. I'd bet you could find an exact match at Lowes...

The sticky goop is putty tape. Butyl tape is superior to putty tape and can be found at camping world, or ONLINE

Let us know how you make out!

Thanks for the reply EMD_ Driver. You feel this tube and the two fittings which are part of it as it stands now is something I can perhaps buy at Lowes? I don't have any experience with RV plumbing matters so I guess this is worth the try.

How is Butyl tape superior to putty tape? In other words is it really worth using? I read in the description that it is not trimable, which seems like a drawback since I can't imagine not having to trim the stuff once I get the cover back in place and mushed down to seal the deal properly.

Once the cover is back in place and mushed down, the butyl that squishes out the edges can be cleaned off with a plastic putty knife or something similar. The butyl seems to stay soft and pliable forever vs the putty that will harden (and then leak!).

After some thought, I decided to go with my first instincts on this repair. Since we never use the outside shower and in fact wished we had ordered it as a delete when we originally spec'd our new Sunny, I choose to cap both water leads right at the T fitting under the sink.

Now I am thinking of perhaps buying a new compartment door of a similar size as this now non-functioning outdoor shower box, and installing it along with a small storage container for holding smaller odds and ends verses just reinstalling that useless Outdoor shower box again.

I know compartment doors are available from several different sources, and a suitable compartment can be built in my workshop.

Anyway that was an update for anyone who might have followed the thread.

Thanks!
