Door window leaks
Hi,
We are repairing the entrance door to our 1700 because the door window leaked and wrecked the bottom of the door. We have pretty much fixed everything but do not know what to do about the door window. The door window has gaskets in it that obviously failed. We are not going to be able to get new gaskets for this window. I cannot find any butyl tape in this town Can we just use rope putty that is for windows??? Do we buy some of that "form a gasket" for cars and remake our gaskets??? Do we use 100% silicone and just caulk it??? My brother suggested we leave the current gasket in it and 100% silicone caulk all around the gasket so it seals to the door.....I don't know...seems kind of iffy...I suppose, if the caulk is all the way around the gasket. I just don't know.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Order some butyl tape on line also check the top of the door and make sure it has no leaks. My T1700 had no gasket just putty tape.

Mainah,
Thanks for the information. As far as "check the top of the door and make sure it has no leaks," It didn't leak before but we have completely redone the whole door...new wood inside and new skin.
We HAVE to put the door back on but we will use the putty tape until then (it is raining daily here) and order the butyl tape for a permanent repair.
Thanks
Anita

I had a Toyota MH with a rotted door and it was leaking in through the top edge of the door where the aluminum parts fit together at the miter joint. I went through the same drill I ripped pressure treated wood to size and drilled holes in the bottom. X2 on the rain they think by the middle of next week we may see sun shine.

Mainah...oh no. The miter joints don't line up like they should. I will have to caulk it or something. Maybe it didn't leak from the top because it is under a little overhang??????
Oddly enough, there are built in drainage holes in the bottom of the door. Little squares that were factory made.
Yep, we used treated wood too.

Looking good Anita.
Is that a flag mount in the front corner?

Mainah,
Are you seeing any sunshine yet in your neck of the woods? It has rained on a daily basis here for over a month and I live in Wisconsin! My husband is mowing right now but the grass is wet...nothing to be done about that because the grass was just getting too long. Now parts of the US are going to see super high temps. This is a crazy crazy crazy summer so far. Still, I try to remember to go out and enjoy the nice warm temps because I remember all the vows I made last winter to make a point of enjoying the warmth during the summer months

Today we actually saw some sun shine but all it has done so far as make it steamy I had to run inside a get the sun glasses. But not to worry the prediction is for heavy rain and strong thunder storms later. I moved back to Maine in 92 to escape the Maryland heat but it is chasing me!
