They are slow to react. You will find the cooler it is outside the cooler refrig will be. Is it near empty or full , that will make a differance. usually it's the other way around can't get it cold enough with opening and closing door all the time. also you may have a bad thermistor, the thing inside slider. There is a way to check it but cant remember how.

H'm freezing everything, this sort of points to the fridge going into survival mode so to speak. When it cannot tell what temp it is at, it runs wide open to keep the food cold.

It seems to happen when the thermistor or control board receiving the signal starts acting up. I have heard of this, just never had it happen to me yet. This site, then look for RM2852 and there is a service manual. If you have an ohm meter you can test your thermistor in a bucket of ice water to tell if it is reading the correct resistance.

Dometic refrigerators - Download Dometic Manuals

You can also try plugging and unplugging the thermistor from the PC broad with all power off. It may be a corroded or bad connection. See page 7 under connector P2

Hope this helps.

John

Just to state the obvious, make sure there IS a little thermister and wire under the plastic slider and the thermister is touching the metal fin.

I know someone that spent a lot of time checking things and found the thermister was not in the slider.

How exactly does that thing work? I noticed my fridge runs on the cold side as well. The wire is attached to the plastic slide but its not touching anything.

That white wire that goes to the plastic slider piece should have a metal bulb on the end of it. The plastic slider holds the metal bulb against the metal cooling fin on the end of the row of fins. That metal bulb is a thermister that changes resistance depending on the temperature of what it touches. (Think digital instant read meat thermometer) The thermister signals the control board when it needs to fire the heating element or gas flame to cause the cooling cycle to run.

If the thermister is defective or not touching the fins the control board will run in "limp" mode, that is, it just runs all the time.

Not sure of your serial # on refrig. or whether it was done on yours but Dometic does have a recall on rm2852.

I had the recall performed several years ago. Here's some pictures of the wire. It is attached to the plastic slide but it doesn't touch anything. I tilted it out in the photos to show that it does not make contact with the metal fins.

Oops , I went out and looked at mine up close, it looks just like those pictures. It has been a few years since I looked at it up close ... back when I was trying to figure out how things worked in my "new" trailer. Your thermister IS in the cold zone where it should be. The plastic is cooled by the fin and the thermister is cooled by the plastic. I recalled someone that found theirs was hanging down below the drip tray and the fridge got too cold.

BTW: Those are excellent pictures.

There is a procedure to measure the resistance of the thermister, I will see if I can find it.

There is a Dometic Diagnostic Manual at http://www.fourwheelcampers.com/newd...atormanual.pdf

On page 11:
Quote:
5.2 Thermistor
Disconnect the thermistor harness from the P2, 2-pin terminal on the lower circuit board. Place the thermistor in a glass of ice water (more ice than water), approximately 33° F to 35° F. Wait 8 to 10 minutes. You should get a reading of approximately 8,000 to 10,000 ohms

Thanks. I'll have to test it out to see. I found a replacement thermistor on the internet that has a dial knob on it to adjust the temp setting. If I need to replace it, that's the model I'm going with. It's called snip-the-tip (snip-the-tip.com). It looks like a good product.

Hi jpspaz,

How "cold" is cold?

Do you have a thermometer inside?

Mine runs 33 to 34. Some times 32. It use to run hotter before I added my cooling fan in the vent stack on the roof. Those are normal temps.

If you are down in the 25 or lower, well then something is too cold.

Hope this helps

John

It does on mine as well ~ is your food freezing? I have a thermometer (indoor/outdoor remote type thermometer) in our fridge and it usually runs 32-34 degrees F if I don't open the fridge door often the temps will be ower - when I do I will see droplets of ice on the fins......

OH... before you go nuts trying to fix something... that may not be an actual problem. Ours does that from time to time but it melts and then runs out the hose out the back of the fridge.

Try and get a thermometer inside the fridge itself and see if it stops at about 32 F.

In order to actually cool the fridge to 32, the fins are going to have to be a little colder than 32 so ice forms on the fins.

If the fridge food area is heading way down into 28 and keeps going, then you have an issue.

This seems to mimic what Nana is getting as well.

Hope this helps

John
