Just found this website today when we noticed or RM2852 was freezing everything in the refrigerator. My thermistor doesn't look anything like the one originally posted. Has no metal; completely encased in plastic. And I believe it has NEVER been attached to that slider. It's been hanging down the back of the refrigerator for the past 10 years. Who knew? There's no mention of it in the manual. Any idea how this one is supposed to work?

That looks like the newer style thermister. remove cable from the plastic loop it's in and insert it in the larger loop on the other side. The place the large flat c part on the end cooling fin. By sliding clip up and down on fin controls the refrigerator temperature. Sliding higher on fin makes it cooler, sliding down on fid makes it warmer. Start with it in the center and go from there. don't expect instant results it takes hours for change.

I agree with Jim, that does look like one of the alternate thermisters. I have a spare one but never installed it, it's a spare. Follow Jim's mounting suggestions.

That said, if the thermister goes bad, the fridge will go into survival mode or limp mode so to speak. Since it does not know what the temperature is, it goes into full cold mode non stop.

If you have an ohm meter, you can test the thermistor in a glass of ice water.

Also if the sensor connection is loose going into the control board, that can cause the same problem.

Are you electrically friendly and have an ohm meter? If Jim's mounting suggestion does not help, let us know and we can go into this deeper on the troubleshooting.

Hope this helps

John
