Can I still use my 12-volt 3-stage automatic charger on the 6-volt array once it's hooked up in series? It's only a 6-amp unit. And can I buy and use one of those Battery Tender PLUS units on the 6-volt array to control sulfation or will I need to get a 6-volt model and maintain them as stand alone batteries?

Hi Dave
See if this helps. 2, 6 volts batteries wired in series to produce a working 12 volts is a good move. When my current Group 27’s die, I will upgrade to 6 volt golf cart type.
To the battery charger or your on board American convertor, those 2 6 volt’ers are like a large capacity 12 volt battery. So yes charge them in the 12 volt fashion with the 2 wired in series.
Plus end of charger still on positive end of one battery post, then your series cable between the 2 batteries (- to +) and out the other end on the negative post. This is not a problem. The charger or convertor have no idea they are 2, 6 volt in series. All it sees is qty 6, 2 volts cells adding up to a 12 volt potential. Remember an actual 12 volt battery is made up of 6, 2 volt cells linked under the plastic cover from internal cell post to internal cell post to give a 12 volt potential across the out side posts.
And yes by all means, use a 12 volt Battery Minder Plus to desulfate them and keep them topped off all the time. Again hook up in the same 12 volt fashion.
You said Battery Tender PLUS, did you mean the brand Battery Minder Plus?
I have not found that the Battery Tender PLUS
http://batterytender.com/product_info.php?products_id=2 actually has a desulfate mode.
But the Battery Minder PLUS does.

By the why you can get the Battery Minder Plus for like the low $40’s
Hope this helps
