Cleaning putty

How do you clean up that putty they use around the windows. Is there a solvent that works well?

Putty

I remove what I can manually and use WD-40 to remove the rest.

As Norm said, remove manually and use a bit of WD-40 to get the rest.

I would make two suggestions about doing this.

First, use one of those cheapie plastic putty knives to remove the bulk. Take care not to scratch the finish. I would not use anything metal for this.

Second, spray the WD-40 on a rag or paper towel and use that to wipe off the remainder. I would be very cautious about getting any real quantity of WD-40 on the remaining putty under the window or door as it wil dissolve it over time and create a weak spot in the caulking. Be sure to wipe off the excess and don't let it soak into the caulking.
