Can I walk on the roof? Sunline 19.5

I just bought an A/C cover and two vent covers for winter use.

When I got close up to the roof, I noticed the robber roof seemed bubbled, and uneven. I felt around with my hand and the roof did not feel hard under the rubber, front entrance side corner. Is the roof solid under the rubber? Can it be walked on?

I have to get someone up here to feel around other areas of the roof. I tried to take pictures to zoom in, but somehow the rippling depth does not show.

I wouldn't walk on either of mine. and not because I am a big dude. My older ones don't seem to have the structure to support the weight concentrated in someone walking around. I would maybe consider a piece of plywood and laying on it, but I am not an expert.

Most likely, you cannot walk on the roof. The rubber roof material is glued to bud board (think heavyweight cardboard) then onto the trailer. Most people get a piece of plywood 2' x 6' (you want it to span at least 3 rafters) and cover with carpet to work on the roof.

Oh, and welcome to the club!

Hi,

Mack is right on that unless your camper had a special order option for a walk on roof, most Sunlines are not considered direct walk on roofs. Since your year camper is a rubber roof, see these pics

The bud board looks like this
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...ture-8925.html

The roof truss system looks like this
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...ion-16611.html

To service items on the roof, use a cloth, carpet, tarp etc layed on the roof area you are going to work at to protect the rubber from abrasion. Then using 3/8 to 5/8" thick plywood, in sizes that are manageable to lift up and that will span 16" centers of the rafters. I use canvas tarp with 2' x 4' by 5/8" plywood sheets as that is what I have laying around. I over lap them as needed to get 8 feet long etc.

See this post at the end as I am servicing the AC unit.

Hope this helps and good luck

John
