Need any suggestions!!!! Just got a 2001 Sunline T2653 Fell in love with it. Bought it as is and overlooked the septic holding tank. Got home and found that it is busted wide open. I want to replace it myself but, internet is not givin me much help. Are there direct fit tanks? DO i need to order custom one? Do i cut open holes for vent and toilet myself? Any one have experience? Has it happened anyone? Will be removing (attempting) tank this weekend. Any help ????
Thanks Michael..........

Hey Michael!

Welcome to the SOC!

Congratulations on your new Sunline... If possible, could you post pictures of the damage to the black tank? It's entirely possible, that it may be repairable. If not, we'll have to see what we can do, about finding a tank for you. I do know that they can be expensive. Let's hope that it can be repaired!

Gary

thanks for reply

hey thanks for your timely reply,
I will take pictures today on my lunch break. I don't think it is salvageable though. Due to its missing about a 6 x 6 inch chuck on bottom and huge crack from missing chunk all the way to and along top flange. Not sure if anything will work or stick to the plastic.
Will email picks tomorrow tanks again

From what you describe, I don't see why you couldn't at least attempt a repair. It would only cost you the price of a sheet of ABS plastic and some ABS cement.

If the bottom inside of the tank is clean enough, you could work a piece of the sheet in and glue it down. Then glue another piece, that covers the entire hole. Both pieces would be glued to the tank and to each other. You would then be able to repair the crack and use the tank!

Well got to remove tank today to see if it is salvagable or not. Not as dificult as I thought. Now I gotta see if i can save the tank or not. Your Idea sounds good where would I get the abs plastic and the cement. Does it hold up good? I attached the best pic I had. Planning to go camping in 2 weeks the new england weather has been great. At this point I am willing to spend a little extra to get this tank replaced or repaired ASAP. Let me know what u think

Wow! I wonder what they hit that thing with...

I didn't realize it was on a curve either...

HERE is another person's take on the tank repair.. His was only a crack, but this idea may be something for you to consider. It would definitely be a fairly simple job.... If it can be done...

If you want to try the ABS sheet repair, I would suggest getting a couple sheets of the 1/16" black ABS sheet, that is listed near the bottom of THIS page...

Personally, I would try a combination of both repair methods. Using the ABS sheet and some fiberglass, to make the repair stronger. I've heard good things about the plasti-mend and think it would allow you to repair what you have, instead of replacing it.

If you do decide to replace it, there's a possibility that it could take 6-8 weeks (Or more) to get an exact replacement.

Well, Gary would sure be a lot braver than me with attempting to repair that tank, and then to TRUST it to do it's job. Repairing is doable, but "trusting" is another thing. With that huge hole being basically on the bottom of the tank, the repair will be subject to a LOT of stress, I "might" be more willing to trust it, if it had some bottom support, but they don't. I shudder to think about the "MESS" should the repair fail. And of course depending on where your at when it would fail, YUCK !!!

Good luck with you decision

Kitty

Okay!!!
The verdict is in.......After weighing my options, cost and time. Oh ya! I Also want to thank everyone for their time, help and great advice.

Okay Since I
already had the tank removed. I opted to go with a new tank .So I Ordered a new one from rvandvansurplus.com. They had the style I was looking for and the size is close enough. I am in it for over a little over 200$ for everything. Spoke with Bob over the phone he answered all my questions. Should be a little over a week before I get it. I will keep everyone updated during my repair. Again thankyou for your advice.
Michael......

Septic Tank Replacement

ok, so I bought a new tank plus the fittings. RV tech suggested I use "Black" ABS solvent as it is more flexible then the common "Yellow" solvent sold everywhere. I measured, at least 6 times, drilled and glued the fittings in. Let the tank sit for a 3 days for good measure then re-istalled under the trailer. turns out my 3" narrower tank width was not an issue to fasten into place, as the lumber seems to run front to back in that area. all the fear of the unknown is gone. wont hesitate to replace one again if the need arises.

septic tank replacement

I have pictures of the finished product. Never thought of taking some before and during. On some of the tank pictures, you may be able to see the orginal location of the tank clamps.

Great job!

It still amazes me, that those little brackets are able to support all that weight! Especially when the trailer is bouncing down the road!
