black tank smell, coming from?

i thought i had conquered the smell that was coming from my camper, or at least solved the problem for the time being. but lo and behold, that is not the case.

early this morning i noticed that the black tank was full. i went back to sleep for a little bit and when i woke up i noticed a bad black tank smell in my camper. i emptied the black tank (this is the first time i've ever used the black tank tank) and followed that with some grey water for cleaning. then i happy campered both tanks. the smell is still here!

the toilet doesn't smell, the bathroom doesn;t smell. the smell is coming from underneath the bathroom subfloor, which connects to my kitchen counter and the rest of my camper. i looked around down there and did not see any water leakage. i didn't see anything that would leave this smell. i figured if it was a toilet issue, i would smell it in the bathroom, but nothing there. no smell at all. just from the subfloor.

suggestions? ideas? i am in north carolina now, near asheville and if anyone is nearby or passing through that would consider helping me tackle this problem, i would forever be in your debt.

note: this is the first time i've used the black tank. the first time i;ve used this new toilet and the first time i've used the tank since i did a patch job with plasti-mend a couple weeks ago. those things all seem to be working properly. i do plan in the spring/summer to pull up the shower pan and replace the bathroom subfloor.

to the best of my knowledge there is no dead animal. i looked at subfloor with mirrors, flashlights, took pics with camera and flash. i didn't find anything, and thought from that and from several other things going on in the camper that there was water in the subfloor insulation that had molded out and that's what i was smelling. i was going to trap this with tape or plastic or something until the spring, when i can take up the shower pan and replace all that insulation. it is possible there's something dead in the insulation area, but there's not more i can know without taking up the shower pan and pulling out that insulation, unfortunately.

i'm going to tape up any spaces to this subfloor space and plan to dump the toilet before it gets full. i'm hypothesizing that maybe there is a leak in subfloor where it meets the toilet drain, and perhaps that's why i had this new type of smell. in the spring i will pull up the shower pan, the insulation and anything else in the subfloor that needs replacing.

hopefully that will solve the problem for now. otw i'll have to replan to do the subfloor/shower work sooner.

Just a thought. Once I switched my black water treatment to a "green" formaldehyde free type. The smell was horrible. I switched back and haven't had a problem since.

If you got wet you most likely have mold and until it's dry it won't go away.
