3/8" pex, I did not know they made 3/8" pex. Do you mean 3/8" outside or 3/8" inside? A 1/2" outside which is common could have a 3/8" inside.

Regardless, if you have the correct fitting and the ID of the tube you have, heating the pex will make it slide on. I have done this before but not by boiling water. I used a propane torch and gently warmed the outside of the tube and with "gloves on" pushed the tube over a cold metal fitting. It sounds like you do not have enough heat.

If you do not have a torch, you can use a gas grill with the top open. Let the grill warm up on high, most go to 500F, then take the top off and rotate the tube over the heat like roasting a marshmellow. If you get too close the tube may melt, and if so, cut off the end and try again.

If you do not have the gas grill, a bic lighter or grill lighter can do it too. Just do not get too close to the tube or it will burn it.

Be careful, the hot plastic will burn skin instantly. Hold the tube way back far enough it stays cool. And hold the fitting with pliers or some other way to hold the fitting you are pressing in the hot tube.

Hope this helps

John

It just says 3/8 but looks like 3/8 interior. They've got varying sizes at Lowe's.

Not enough heat does sound like the issue tho I am copying what is done in the video. I'll try your suggestions, hopefully I have the right tools. I'll have to use my gas stove or a lighter.

Thanks John!

Well, I made the tool and it seems to have worked. Yay! I gave it some time and haven't had any clogs.

The tool was easy to make once I used fire. Very easy to use and the camera showed no blockages.

Thanks, esp to John, for the advice.

I hope I wasn't premature. I dumped the tank the other day and it didn't sound like it should. Maybe anomalous. Time will tell I suppose after a few more tank emptyings.

Just saw this post. From the same you tube channel as JohnB's post, here is another one of their videos for a plugged blank tank but in this case it shows how you to do the same thing but from the dump valve area.
