Battery Install
I have a '83 T2101. If I understand some of the other posts correctly, just plugging into a 110 supply, the 12v system will not work correctly without a battery hooked up.I plan on putting my camper on a semi-permanent site with power. The one problem with my used camper is that there was no battery when I got it.I have a black wire, white wire, and blue pigtail coming out of the camper to the front where the battery should be, but no clue if there is anything else I need to have to hook it up. These seem to be the ones coming from the charger/converter.

Don't know about the blue that's usually brake wiring and may go to the + but the black should go to the battery + and the white to the -.

Thanks. But what I really needed to know was whether I really need the battery. No problem obtaining one and hooking it up, but if it's not necessary for mine to operate properly, I won't buy one.

GKelly, I went outside to double check my tt before posting this. I unhooked the battery and then tried to run 12V equipment. My water pump didn't run. If you will run on outside water supply then maybe that is no big deal.
I didn't try the refridgerator or heater since one thing not running was enuff to tell me the lack of battery does make a difference but one that can probably be worked around. If you have access to the tt and power the foolproof solution would be to connect power and turn on equipment. You should be able to run everything but the roof A/C from a simple extension cord.
Since you are close to a camping heaven you might consider using the camper with the battery and plan some short local trips.
Good luck with whichever way you go.

A cheap battery will work fine you don't need the biggest or the best the protection circuits in the converter prevent it from supplying power to no load. Think of as "emergency lighting" system should the power go out.

I did go outside and double about things running on 12V. My fridge, heater both do work without a battery in the system. Water pump still did not work without the battery. I thought it was a bad fuse but fuse is good. Did not get to check the water heater so not sure if it needs the battery but I guess it will run without a battery.
I also checked and the running lights, stop/tail lights all run without a battery connected.

Thanks for all the input. Without using the pump and tank I should be ok since I'll be hooked up to water. The fridge that is supposed to be in the TT is not there, so a small one running on 110 is no problem. Once I have it hooked up and running I will try it out and see if everything is ok.
I bought this used and so far just replacing some ceiling that is water damaged. No documentation came with it, so I am flying in the blind as to where everything is at and what I need that I don't have.

That's odd that the water pump required the battery. I'm pretty sure our '02 2753 pump worked with no battery installed. I'm not 100% on that though now that I think back on it. I know that most electric tongue jacks will not run without the battery due to how you wire them. Perhaps the pump is of a high enough draw as it surges on/off that they want the battery to act like a capacitor?
Even a horrible old battery with barely any life should allow the pump to work while plugged into shore power.

We were out this week camping and the bathroom light went out. The light switch by the door would light as if it had power, I checked the GFI outlet and it was good, but no light at the bulb. I also went back to the Inverter to check the 12V power there and the pump fuse was good. Pump not working on 12V might not be my only problem. Time to dig deeper in that well.

Silly question - but did you check to make sure that the ceiling light did not get turned off by mistake? I have had guests use the bathroom and they would turn the light off on the ceiling!

Hi and thanks for the idea but we always leave the bathroom light on and use the door switch when entering the bath. I did turn the switch on the door frame on and it lit as always before but no bathroom light. I then had the door switch in the on, lit position, and flipped the switch on the light fixture to all positions. I only run one bulb in double fixtures so I tried a bulb in the other side of the double fixture.......... nothing.
The TT is backed into storage undercover and I'll go out to trace power on wires with the meter. I'll pull fixtures to get to wires behind them and check connections/power in the walls. One thing everyone might consider is servicing their roof before putting away for the season.

Jim, just fyi. The running lights, stop/tail lights run off the truck. They have no connection to the camper battery other than the DC common/ground. When you said they worked, I'm assuming you had the truck plugged in and tried the signals from the truck.
Just passing this tid bit along in your hunt for your problem.
John
