Barker 3000 Tongue Jack won't go up! UPDATE!

We have a problem with our Barker 3000 electric tongue jack.

The light works - it will go down BUT will not go UP! Any toughts on this?

DH mounted this unit (worked fine on our 1950) and it would not go in the UP position, from the time he put it on (last Wednesday)....

We did not have enough time to look at it before we pulled out for the weekend, came home today and checked the "net" and the only thing I can think of is the synchonizeration...DH says NO WAY - he did nothing to make it go out to sync.....

Anybody have any ideas?????

Poppy and Nana,

Sounds like a bad switch or possible poor ground to me.

Kathy

I do not have the Barker, Have the Atwood, but I researched the Barker.

I thought they had limit switches to shut down the unit from over traveling. If some how the max up limit switch is tripped OR stuck, then it may not go up.

Is DH handy with a volt meter? There is not much to these things, Have to figure out/back into why it is not getting power in the up direction.

Since you have down, then the fuse is not blown, the motor it not toast. It sounds like the up switch setup it not applies power to the motor.

I know this may not be a lot of help, but hope it sparked an idea at least of where to go hunting.

John

Thanks All!

No - when it come to electrical "stuff" he is not a wizard! Give him any other project and he'll figure it out.

I think he is bring it over to our local mechanic (a good camping buddy) and have him look at it today.

I still think it needs to be syncronized, but he won't listen to me!

I have the same power jack and I had to replace a switch on the light.
The switchs are not sealed and water can get in. After replacing the switch I found a rubber switch boot at an auto parts store.

The switch is a double pole double throw that reverses the polarity to the motor. It could be something mechanical but the switch is easy to find a replacement part and easy to replace, So I would start there.

After rereading the post I think Heaton may be correct on both points.
It is necessory to remove the paint from the mounting area before mounting the jack to get a good ground. Without a good ground it may not have enought power to life the trailer??

Thanks everyone - it was the switch!

I'll call Barker in the morning and see if we can get one shipped out.

Thanks again!

OK Barker customer service is ALMOST as good a Sunline was!

Called today - explained the problem - jack would not travel in one direction - customer service asked for my name and address, thought it was for their records - but no - it was to mail us the limit switch NO CHARGE - according to cust serv. it is too small of an item to "bill out", so they are just sending it to us and apoligized for the problems with the Barker 3000 - which I might add we bought used on e-bay 3 years ago!!!!

KUDOS to Barker!
