Awning Grief

Just purchased a complete used Spirit Awning. Got it installed but the remote release has me stumped. The remote lock on the arm doesn't reach the lever on the roll. can anyone send me pictures of their assembly? I think the lever should be at the bottom and yet the cap that slides onto the arm doesn't appear to have ever been removed.

Do you mean Carefree Spirit? If so, you are missing a part. There's supposed to be a squarish looking part that goes over that release peg and moves it. That square part attaches to the sliding remote release mounted in the vertical arm. You can see it in the following link, "L" or #7. It's at the top end of that part.

You should be able to get that part from an RV dealer. It looks like the tip part simply broke off here.

Remember, all Sunlines came with Dometic A&E awnings from the factory, so very few people would have pictures of this type of awning unless their awning was replaced with a Carefree. I'm personally a fan of Carefree products, their products are outstanding and from what I'm told, their customer service is even better.

Based on how I think the release works, you should still be able to work the awning without that part, it just means you'll have to pull the release peg manually or with the awning rod.

Yes i have the piece that attaches to the remote and slips over the lever. thought is was on backwards so i had it off at the time of my photo. notice how the lever is situated so high above the arm? the remote arm doesn't travel that high. To me it seems the arm on the roll should be moved closer to the side either on the front or on the backside closer to the trailer wall.
