With the small coaches, like the 1950, they have non-ducted AC units. The controls for the unit are right on the ceiling and you just choose the how cool you want it. You can't set it for a certain temp and have it cycle on and off. I'm not really sure why they haven't changed this, I guess they just don't want to modify what's been around for 20 some years.
The return intake is still on the bottom of the unit, it's just much smaller than the ducted versions, and the cold air ducts vent out either end of that whole panel.
I'm not sure if a thermostat could be retrofitted. I suspect the easiest way is to get the whole lower AC unit and install it. I think the top half should be the same. You may end up having to install a couple ducts on each side of the unit, which would require cutting in the ceiling, but as long as you found a cover that directed the air toward the front and back instead of right in the center, you could probably do it.
Maybe there is a way to modify to just add in a thermostat, but I think this could be difficult.
