AC unit? Will it run off 110v?

Or do I need to be hooked to a 30amp service? I have not have the time to run 30amp out to where I am going to park my tt so I just have the adapter and an extention cord. Will the AC unit run off that?

Thanks in advance...

You are asking two different questions. The trailer is 110vac, and of course the A/C will run off 110vac.

Now, you say you don't have the time to run a 30 amp, 110vac line to the trailer? If the current service is a 15 amp circuit, it *might* run the A/C and it might not depending on the start surge that your unit requires. A 20 amp circuit will most likely run the A/C with no problems, but don't try to run the microwave or mama's hair dryer at the same time.

If all you have is a 15 amp circuit, running the A/C is not advisable.

As for the extension cord, the trailer draws what the trailer draws. If you use too small an extension cord, you are pretty much guaranteed problems, especially if the cord has a lower rating than the circuit.

Distance matters. On a 15 amp circuit you'd be asking for trouble on a long run out to the TT with a under capacity cord and then trying to run the A/C.

My fault, I was meaning a regular old cord plugged in to the house... I know in our last motorhome it wouldn't even turn on unless hooked to a 30amp service.

Thanks,

It depends what the regular cord is. If you are using one of the usual 50 foot 16 gauge (or even 14 ga) cords if probably will not run. I have a 25 foot 10 gauge heavy duty cord that I plug into a 20 amp GFI outlet (which is fed with 10 ga wire) and it works quite well.

Yep, just a regular old 16 guage... Think I'm going to leave it at that until spring... I just bought this unit and would rather go through the cold Pittsburgh winter telling myself "it will work, I just need a heavier gauge cord!"

Your camper supply line is a #10 SJ cord rated 30 amps it usually feeds two breakers one 15 amp and a 20 amp for the A/C. It of course depends on the size of the A/C but you are pushing it with an extension. The cord adapters are only rated 15 amps so even with a #10 extension your rated amperage is still only 15 amps. A dedicated 30 amp breaker in the house panel and a NEMA 30 amp 120 volt RV outlet would give you all the power you would ever need. We have been threatened with 10" of snow tomorrow night here in the mountains of western Maine so right now I'm concentrating on heat! Good luck with your A/C!

Tweety
If I'm loading the Tweety on a very hot day I always plugged it into a regular plug in the garage, using a heavy duty extension cord, and the ac worked fine. I would only run it for a couple of hours though. And I don't think Mr Tweety was too happy with me because he recently installed a 30 amp circuit in the garage

Used a heavier gauge cord on a 20 amp circuit and she works nice!
