AC Filter dirty ???

Ever year I clean my AC filter and there never seams to be any significant amount of dirt.

I rinse it out in the sink with water, and there doesn't seam to be much of anything come out.

Yet I will have dust on the table and counters etc, you wonder where it comes from. You would think it's in the air, therefore the AC filter would have some dust etc.

Any thoughts, comments, etc.

Sunline 1,

App. how many days of AC use in the Yr.(before cleaning)?

After app. 2 weeks of AC use my filters are VERY dirty (the foam is app.50% or more clogged) & has to be cleaned for the AC to work efficently.
So for us I clean the AC filters & the Fantastic fan screen (in sink with liquid dishsoap & water) after app. 2 weeks of use, and they really need it.

I guess the air must be much cleaner where I live ha ha .

You know when I go south for the winter (GA), my AC filter doesn't show any build up of dirt after the whole winter. I don't clean it once in 4 months.

Maybe there is something wrong here ?

I read something on another forum about cold air leaking into the warm air return, I'll check that out today.

Not exactly sure how to edit this ??

Took filter & cover off. Ran AC felt some cold air comming into the warm air area.

Got the old Duct tap out and sealed up as best as I could.

Also noted some dirt/bugs stuck to the cooling coils up in that chamber. Found what I think is an old bottle brush ( with about an 18" handle) or that's what it looks like. Gently cleaned the coil area, hope I did some good.

Will give it a try later today.
