Hi raym,
Top wear pads, do you mean the small nylon plastic wear pads on top of the slide arm? Want to make sure we are talking about the same thing first before I get into that the problem may be.
If we are both talking about the same thing, these is what a nylon wear pads looks like
And they are used in several places in the slide system.
This pics shows 2, wear pads on the top and 1 on the side of the slide arm housing. There is another 1 on the other side you cannot see.

Are these the wear pads you are referring too? And are you referring to the top ones?
Is your slide jumping up into the wear pad area? If so need more info about this issue as the slide arm should not be jumping up and if it is, that is problem 1 to help you get corrected first. The top wear pads very rarely touch under normal operation.
Can you post some pics of your slide system so we can see what you have and are against?
