1988 Solaris renovation help

Will be starting renovation soon, looking at information on renovations here has me feeling I can do this! So I haven't gotten into investigating yet but I have a question, is the framing 1X2 or 2X2? This is all new to me. I have helped in conversational framing.

Hi Tammy,

I think the best way to know is to open up one of the bad walls. The front wall in my 1987 T1550 has 1x2s and 1x3s but mostly 1x2s. What I have seen so far is that the side walls have 1x2s. The floor has 2x2s. I was not sure until I started pulling out the rotted wood and was able to measure. I held off on buying any lumber until I knew for sure. I did not have to replace all of the lower frame, just the front. I replaced that board with a 2x4. Matched up perfectly with the 2x2 floor joists.

I don't know if this is the same in all but this is what I found in mine.

Thank you Tommie,

I'm working about 4 hours from home right now, getting anxious to get the renovation started, this will be my travel nurse home away from home when I'm done. Thinking of picking up some supplies on my way home Wednesday morning, your information here helps a great deal, looking at you renovations also has helped!

Another question if you zoom in on my pictures you'll see the place where the awning was looks like it's been a problem in the past, need to know... what is this trim piece called and if and how I can clean all the goop that is piled on it off and if I can't get it off where can I buy more? I have looked through the rv parts sites online and have not seen anything that looks like it only finding the vinyl cover that goes on it.

Try this one. This is from JohnB's thread on Eternabond and I believe he referred to it as the gutter rail, at least on the model he was working on in that thread.

It may even be the awning rail. One of the senior members will be able to tell you. I can't really tell. I haven't gotten to my awning yet.

Hi Tammy,

Once you get the area cleaned up you will see that it is a piece of trim that has the gutter and a rounded piece that the awning "cord" slides in. I'll get a picture of mine so you can see what I mean. It may be two full pieces of that trim that runs from the front to the back of the camper. You may want to clean everything up around the roof edge and work from top down. This way you can find possible bad spots of the roof and trim that may lead water in.

As for the interior framing. Like Tommie said, you may need to open it up to make sure. Some are 2X2 some are 1X2 but they don't always measure the same as stock framing like you would get a the lumber yard.
