1977 rc-15 Windows

I'm new, and newer still into camping. I bought a 1977 rc-15 travel trailer, and it has crank out windows.... a couple of the handles spin and the little gear boxes dont engage to open the window paine as they should.. any ideas on how to repair or replace? and a possible location to locate parts for this? Any help is appreciated.... Thank you...

I had issues in the past with roof vent cranks stripping out. I'm not exactly sure what you have on your windows, but maybe this can help.

On the roof vent cranks, the gear system was inside a metal case. The case was pressed at the factory, and its operation depended on that case being sealed. I had two that were splitting apart and the crank would strip quite often.

Since it was clear that there were pegs that the cover plate was pressed over, here's my solution. I put the crank mechanism in the vise (I realize you can't easily get the window crank out, so pliers might work) and squeezed it back to the normal position. If left alone, it will strip back out with in a couple uses. I ended up then putting a center punch on those pins and pounding them. That spread the pins apart enough to hold it, and then the entire mechanism didn't have to be replaced.

If you can't fix it and can't find a replacement at places like PPL parts or Camping World, try a place that sells parts for mobile homes. They had similar cranks.

Paul is right and that reminds me that there is usually a small section devoted to mobile home/rv parts in stores like Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

If memory serves, I have seen the exact cranks and window mechanisms that you described in there.

My '76 Prowler had them.
