1987 slide in TC

I have a 1987 sunline that I am rebuilding. When I bought it last year, my first look and it looked to be in fine shape. Was I wrong! Very big mistake buying this one.

Anyway, the wing walls were rotted out along with the roof leaking all over the place. After trying to seal things up, I gave in and was ready to just trash it and take my lost.

I didn't and I been rebuilding it for the past 2 months. First was to rebuild the wing walls. Then a complete new roof. From they redo the complete inside.

I do have some pictures of the rebuild that I will post if anyone wants to see them. All I have left to to paint the ceiling and hang the new cabniets along with lighting.

Lets see if I can post a few pictures here. I had a full days work today even thought it was HOT! I am almost finish with my project and hoping to use it this coming weekend even with rain coming which we really need. The camper had a front window that I did away with due to leaks and a bad gasket that I couldn't get a replacement. The complete roof was changed and I installed a EPMD rubber roof. I will get more pictures up soon.

Lets go back a month and start at the begining. A new roof was built out of 2x4's, 3/4" plywood and Luan 5mm plywood. Everything is glued, screwed and nail together.

In that last picture, the new roof is on along with the rubber roof.

A few more to bring things up to date. At this point, lights were going up,all woodwork had 2 coats of varnish, stove hooked up along with exhaust vent in place. A new counter top for the head which is now in place with the sink and all.

Tomorrow, I plan on finishing all the lights( have a few 120v ones to hook up), finish up the head and I have a few cabniet hoors to hang, then some triming. All that and rain in the farcast for 4 or 5 days coming.

Now the bad new. I'm doing this with a very bad heart. I am 100% depended on a CRT-D. So I have to work a bit slow, that and its been real HOT here in Louisiana.

Fire off any questions. I'm game. Oh, my days start at 2am and I stop anywere from 10am till 6pm each day. I started this project at the end of July of this year.

Looks nice. You've put a lot of work into it and should be able to enjoy it for many years. Sunline didn't make your truck camper though, Sun-Lite made the hide'away.

You are right! For some reason I got crossed up.

Anyway,I have a question. This camper weights in around 2000 lbs. My truck is a 2004.5 Dodge 2500 with a cummins clubcab with a 8' bed. I did install hold downs (tieloc's sp?). I know when I had bought the camper, I did have that swaying some what, really not to bad but enough to know that something needs to be done. The weight of the camper really didn't weigh down the truck that much. I do have class "E" tires on now. My question is what would be the best thing to add to the truck first to help out with this problem? I know there are things out there as sway traction bars, bump stops ect, but I need to limit my spending.

Thanks!

Nice job, Fishfighter

We have a couple Sunline truck camper owners on this site, so hopefully they might read your post and provide some answers to your stability issue.

You might also want to go over to RV.Net and post your stability question in the "Truck Camper" category. There are many T/C owners over there.

Kitty

Today was another full day working on the camper. As of 5:30pm, I have the AC running. All lights are up along with all 120v systems. Got most of the trim up on the ceiling along with more doors hung. I have to say after sitting in it with the wife in AC, it came out real nice. The pictures don't do justice of the wood grain with the varnish. Tomorrow, I will be attacking the head if its not rainning to bad and then putting down wood floors which will bring out everything.

Bad thing is that we have a TS building in the Gulf. They are calling for 10" to as much as 15" of rain. They are expecting the winds to get above 60 mph. I done told the wife I will put the camper in the truck so it will not flip over. I done put to much work in this sucker!

Thanks guys. Its been a long road doing the rebuild, but I'm very happy with it. I will see for the first time today if all my hard work payed off. We been getting rain, a lot of rain at that. This is really the first time for rain sence I started the rebuild and I hope there will be no leaks.

Yesterday I attacked the head and finished it. I really need to order a new sink for the head. That plastic yellow thing is a eye sore and has to go! It was time to charge up the water system and I'm pleased to report there were no leaks. No leaks in the drainage system too! I did a bunch of little things that needed to be done and I'm just about to finish up all together.

With all the rain, we are not going camping. So I will do a little work today. I need to charge up the gas system to check for leaks. I had ran another gas line to hook up a outside burnner. I need to install a new smoke/CO alarm. I am looking at hanging a 20" LED tv inside or I just might set it up to be able to take it outside. It would be nice to be able to watch LSU or the Saints playing as I cook which if weather is good, that will be done outside.

I still need to install the roof rack and ladder, but that will have to wait and of course the floor will have to wait too!

Sounds like you are basically doing a total re-build. It is interesting reading and watching your progress.

About that sink, is there any chance a "bar" sink would fit ? That way you could probably get stainless steel in place of the plastic.

Keep up the good work, the great reports to the group and photos when you have time.

I had seen some SS sinks on ebay some time ago that would fit. It is a total rebuild.

Thanks for the kind words!
