It's a pre mid 1980's phone jack. Not too many years ago you could buy an adaptor to new jacks but today the best adaptor is a cell phone.

I can't imagine they worked outside after a week in the weather! Take them to a flee market they maybe a valuable collectors item! I remember the strike but I don't remember when it was but that was about the time all the phone connections became modular so that the non union people could fix phone just by plugging in parts no wiring required.

Interesting... Never would've guessed that! I figured they were for patio lights or speakers or something. Wonder why they would mount them so high?

Well, it's not factory!!!

It could well be some one used it for speakers, it would have given you two pairs for Left/right stereo. Speakers may well have been portable with a phone jack on the other end. Mounted that high they might have hung the speakers from the awning.

Who knows may have been for an outside phone bell. There is no reason they could not have been for speakers it's just a jack may have been some thing they had laying around I have seen stranger connections.
