Agreed, the Durango should be fine for that short trip, with a brake controller and weight distribution hitch.
The older Sunlines did have a lot of storage space, so they were rated to carry a lot more weight because of it. Still though, you're thinking right to plan a tow vehicle based on the heavier GVWR, since the trailer could weigh up to that with stuff in it.
