unknown red switch

I have a solaris t2570 tt. There is a red switch that lights up RED when on. This sw is to the right of the door leading from kitchen area to bathroon. Any one know what this sw is for? i am new to rv'ing and have yet to take the camper out.

First off welcome to Sunline Club.

Now to your switch with the red light. I do not have your model camper but there are only a few illuminated switches that normally come on a camper. And it very well could be the electric element for the hot water heater. In which case a heads up before you flip it on.

Does it look like this? See mine is separate from the water tank console

Here is a close up. And does it have the words “Atwood” on top of it?

If this is it, the heads up is, it is the switch to turn on the electric element for the hot water heater. And you only want to turn it on with the heater full of water or else you can burn out the element. Do not know what year camper you have. The newer ones had a circuit breaker switch in the power converter panel that ideally you turn “off” after the HW heater is empty. Then you do not toast the element if you flip the switch by accident. Then once the heater is filled, turn on the circuit breaker and then flip the switch as needed.

See this pic of the circuit breaker on my T2499.

Let us know if there is any wording at all on that switch.

Good luck

John

Welcome Johnny!

I believe I have your switch figured out. The stuff John is describing is in your kitchen area near the sink.

You didn't say what year your coach was, but the 2570 had a strong run from 1998-2006. I believe your switch is for the bathroom light, and if the light doesn't come on, there could be two things wrong. First, the bulb in the bathroom light could be burned out. Secondly, I think the actual switch on the light could be in the off position. This light should be the main bathroom light, not the light in the shower. I think it's right above the sink.

Here's a few pics. Sorry about not being able to resize them, but Photobucket's new editing feature won't allow me to. I go to click on the size I want it and it wants to send an error report to Microsoft and the whole window closes.

Here's some pics of that '99:

And here's the '01:

WOW... You do have quite the picture collection. It is always nice to see the years of changes and how well the units where built.

Now to the "other" illuminated switch. H'mm. That is a new one. Learn something new every day here on Sunline Club.

Odd that they would illuminate the bath light. Why? On the older models do they illuminate others?

The other thing that is different is, if it is indeed the bath light switch, that on a pass thru bathroom the switch is not inside the bathroom. Meaning if you area coming from the bed room, you have to go all the way thru and out the other end to turn the light on. And if the galley door is closed, it adds another level of getting to the switch.

Seems they may have changed along the years where they locate the walk thru bath switches. I know on the 2004 models, they are inside the bath room and non illuminated. The T2499 is very convenient. The T310SR, well not as convenient..

Thanks for showing the pics down memory lane.

John

Johnny, when you do confirm that it is the bath light, let us know. We too learn from you.

Our 99 T-2970 has the same bathroom light. We also have a switch with a separate red light in the kitchen. It is for the igniter for the gas for the water heater.

Hi John,

It does seem they took out the switches. Here's an up close pic (I added the labels):

I can see it could be very inconvenient on a pass through bath model, but on a standard bath, it's nice to see when the light is on without opening the door. It can also act as an "occupied" sign!

My 94 T2670 has a lighted switch for bath light. As we keep the bathroom door closed all the time its nice to know if the kids have left the light on. Camping is no different than being at home, always telling them to turn the lights off. Lol

My 2003 T-1950 also has the red illuminated bathroom light switch. It always seemed of limited utility when it is already obvious when the bathroom light is on since the bathroom door tops out at least a couple of inches short of reaching the ceiling.

Our 2001 T-295SR had a pass thru bath, and the illuminated switch was on the living room side of the bathroom. It wasn't too much trouble because you could still just reach up and turn on the light overhead with the switch that was right on the light. Or I could just turn on the other light that wasn't operated by the switch.
Our 2003 F-304SR has what I call a split bath. It has the shower and the sink on one side of the coach, with the toilet in a "closet" on the other side. The light for the "closet" also has a red illuminated switch. I think they may have designed it as an "occupied" signal.
I also have a question about the water heater switch. On my trailer I flip the red switch to light the water heater. It illuminates for a second or two untill the ignition is complete and goes off again. Mine is labeled "reset". If the water heater fails to light the red switch stays illuminated. My last two Sunlines were like this, am I alone? I thought that the only way to shut off my electric element was in the breaker panel, but I may be wrong. I guess I should get out the owners book and investigate further. I think the P.O. may have toasted the element anyway. The heater comes on during the night to keep warm, and in my last Sunny the electric element took care of that.
