TV and TT compatable?

I own an 04 Dodge Hemi 1500 SLT (5.7L engine & 3.92 axle ratio). I found an 06 Solaris T-286 SR (dry wt. = 6659lbs & GVWR - 8600lbs). I'd really like to have a Sunline TT with a slide. The RV dealership is asking $19,805. I'd be trading in our 07 Sunline T-2753.

Three questions. Am I asking too much of my Dodge to pull the 06 T-286?
#2 - Is $19,805 too much?
#3 - What's a fair asking trade-in amount for my T-2753?

Thanks!

Excellent choice John!

#1: If you pack lightly, I suspect you could tow it, but I think I'd see a new TV in your future, like 1-2 years. My biggest concern though is the tongue weight. The fact that you have the HEMI and 3.92 RA will really help, but the weak point will be the rear suspension. Mine weighed in at 1250#'s based on John's calculations at the M&G, and the back storage bin was about half full. We had been there for a day at that point, so I can't remember if we had the front kitchen gray tank empty or not. One nice thing about the 286SR is it has both a gray tank for the kitchen and for the bathroom. You could always add rear air bags to help level out the vehicle, but many disagree with this practice.

#2: IMO, it's a bit on the high side. Dealer invoice on mine brand new was $20,362. The NADA value is about 17 for it, so anywhere around or below there would be good, depending on the condition.

#3: Low Retail NADA is 13, so probably $10-12k is a range in what they'd offer you. Anywhere toward the top of that range would be good for you, especially if they don't come down in the price at all. See if they'll budge on the price of the 286SR first before you even mention the trade.

I'm assuming this is the coach you're looking at?

If so, I can't remember if you have a hinged LP cover, but you may want to remove it and replace it with a standard one before you trade. The same for the tire cover, if this doesn't have a Sunline one on it.

I'd also highly recommend the Reese Dual Cam setup since you'll have to upgrade to 1200# bars anyway.

John, it might help put things in perspective to know the "numbers" for some other tv's. FWIW, my 1500HD has a tow rating of 8300 lb. with 3.73; GVWR 8600 lb.; RGAWR 6000 lb.; payload 3100 lb. Then it also has 4 wheel disk brakes, 8 bolt wheels and LT245 tires. Hidden in all these numbers is the frame, springs and shocks to hold everything up. I think you'll find the Hemi adequate, but the rest of the 1500 package comes up short. At the very least ask to weigh the rig before you buy so you can decide for yourself what you're willing to tolerate.

Both2Retired,

Dave & Sue here in Norry. I was just at Farnsworth in Elysburg today and they have 3 Sunlines with slideouts on the lot. I know 2 of them have been there for awhile and if you put a good price in front of them I think they would want to move them. I was talking with Gary F. today and he said he couldn't believe he has 3 Sunlines on his lot. If you go to Farnsworthrv.com you can see 2 of the 3.

Maybe you've looked here before, but just giving you a possible smaller slideout that you can pull from a dealer that isn't too far from your home. That one at Susq. RV looks nice too. Just thought I would throw this out there for ya.

TV & TT Compatable?

Decided to keep out T2753. I know what we've got, how much it weighs (5670#, w/ full fresh water, full propane, & all our camping goodies), and the Dodge's gas mileage. We like to travel and a "lighter" trailer makes it easier. For the 2 of us, our trailer is excellent. Maybe a TT w/ a slide & bigger TV a few years from now.

See you at Buttonwood.

Not sure of your thoughts on a 257SR, but they were only made in '07 and are quite rare. It's the only low profile SR in recent years. One just showed up at Farnsworth:
