Television placement in non-slide models??

I am curious - if you have a non-slide model that doesn' have a designated TV shelf/cabinet, where have you put your television?? I know, I know, TV while camping??? But we do enjoy a dvd/popcorn as a family on rainy camp days, which you can almost ALWAYS count on when at the beach! We are looking at non-slide models but do want to have a tv in the camper, so any replies would be appreciated!

To the best of my recollection, ALL Sunline, slide or no-slide have provisions for a TV. I've never owned a slide model, and I'm on Sunline #10, and there has always been a place designated for the TV. Are you looking at a particular model, so maybe we can tell you where the TV is supposed to be placed?

Thank you for helping! (I might mention, I was referring to tv placement in the living area as opposed to in the bedroom). The models where I did not see any tv placement (on floorplans at sunlinerv.com) were:

GW,

In the 1950 the TV is "supposed to be placed on the "Swivel" shelf that is located at/under the shirt closet at the foot of the bed. This shelf is on a swing arm and can be pivoted to allow viewing from the living area. When I had my 1950's, I just had a small riser that I sat behind the kitchen faucet and sat the TV on top of it. I preferred that location over the swing arm. On the 1950, the TV CAN NOT REMAIN on the swing arm bracket during travel.

ON the 2075, which I have never owned, it appears that the "flip-Up" TV shelf in the bedroom, will also allow viewing from the sofa. That shelf is mounted high, and there is only a foldup curtain closing off the bedroom. All you would have to do is turn the TV to the proper viewing angle.

On the 2363, I have been in many of these, strongly considered purchasing one in fact, but I'm sorry I don't recall where the TV was to be used. Hopefully, another member will be able to help you.

On my 2363, I had the standard 5 cu. ft. refer, so I had a shelf for the TV above the refer. Besides, the cabinet in the bedroom (it didn't have the flip up shelf for some reason), the other place for a TV was in the front left corner. That's where the booster switch was and the plate with 12V supply and TV antenna supply. The TV could be moved as far as possible along the counter there, possibly onto the cutting board over the sink. Since I had the shelf, I never had a need to put it in the corner, but it could be done. However, the 5 cu. ft. refer is no longer offered (it was kinda small in my opinion), so only the 6 cu. ft. was available with separate freezer, so there was no longer room for a shelf. There is just a small cabinet above the refers now.

In out T-2970 there is a cabinet next to the door that it sits on. There is the antenna hookup, a 120V and a 12VDC plug there.

Our '99 T-2453 (which I am discovering is a bit of a rare bird as they were only offered for a couple of years) is essentially a reverse floor plan of the much more common T-2499. It's a non-slide trailer, and there are provisions for TV's at both ends.

In the bedroom, it has a flip-up shelf, 12vdc outlet, 110vac outlet, and the antenna jack/amplifier for the antenna.

In the dining/living area, there is a little cabinet up high that will nicely accomodate a 13" TV - it contains an antenna jack and a 110 vac plug. It can be viewed from both the couch and the swivel rocker.

FWIW, we never watch TV in bed, so I opted to remove the flip-up shelf from the bedroom. It was just blocking the tiny aisle around the bed anyway. I re-installed it on the end of the kitchen counter by the stove so it can be flipped up to provide extra work space in the kitchen. It is much more useful there than it ever was in the bedroom.

If I were purchasing one of the new LCD flat screen TV's today, I would probably mount it on the wall beneath the TV cabinet in the front above the end of the couch, and just drill a hole above for the antenna and power cables. That would free up that nice, deep TV cabinet for more useful storage.

Actually the 2363 has the best place for my tv yet.

I have a 19" lcd/dvd combo that sits on the counter next to the front sofa.

I could go with an even larger flat screen if I wanted but that would not feel right.

The tv is out of the way when you move around and you can view it easily from the chair and if you really want to get comfy you can lay on the sofa and have a better view. (If you can stay awake)

This is where the factory planned it as the antenna connection and power is on the front wall.

The last trailer had a 3 drawer table for the tv but to view it direct on I had to turn towards me which extended the screen out into the walk though.

Thank you all so much for your help - and for the great ideas!!! I like the idea of moving the flip-up shelf in the bedroom since we wouldn't use a tv in there anyway. Would it be safe to mount it on a wall in the living area?? I don't know if there are studs or what to mount it to in a TT??

Green Willow - I have been told, by the wonderful members on this forum, that the studs are 16" on center...also it was suggested to use a stud finder on the inside to locate them.

I moved it to an end cabinet wall by the stove. The mounting for the flip-up shelf is NOT 16" on center, and there were no studs in the wall between the stove and the paneling. Sunline placed extra studing in the wall in the bedroom where the shelf was mounted. And it required a wider stud than your standard 1.5" studsdue to the locations of the mounting screws. Sunline typically uses wide (3-4") pieces of thick plywood in thes locations to strengthen these mountings.

What I did was to remove the stove (4 screws and a gas fitting) and place 1x4 backer stock behind the 1/4"paneling at the proper spacing for the shelf. I was able to anchor the backer stock top and bottom to the cabinetry sufficient for use as extra counter top. Effectively I created my own wall studs.

There are several places in most trailers that you could do the same if you are willing to open things up a bit. However, I do not recommend removing things like refrigerators unless you are experienced at that sort of thing. It's not a job I would tackle.

In summary, I got lucky and found a place that I could move the shelf to that allowed me to get behind the paneling and place proper studing. Most of the time, the location you want to move something like that to can not be accessed from the other side, meaning that you can't properly mount it. In this case, everything came together.

The '07 T-1950 has the identical living/dining room and galley layout as our '99 T-2453. In our's the overhead cabinet above the couch is actually two cabinets.

The left portion is a much deeper corner cabinet with 110vac and antenna connection for a TV. That's the part just to the right of the refrigerator

The right portion has a door and is shallow enough so you can view the TV from both the couch and swivel rocker.

What I can't answer is if the newer units have the same cabinetry and are wired for the TV. Maybe someone with a new 1950 can tell us.

Hey am I livn on faith with yall's testimonials I haven't even layed eyes on a 1950 Solaris Sunline.

I have studied every picture, spec. and all I can come up w. Now that we have our CAT wt. one step closer. I figure if he doesn't wanna go see one I shall get a wild hair and go myself! Riceville is mighty close. Maybe those folks wanting a giant Sunline have traded their's in by now? Cud bee!

My T-1661 has an antenna, amplifier, and 12vdc jack at the end of the kitchen cabinet by the bunk. I really dont know where Id put a TV over there. Besides I dont care for nework TV anyway, we just watch movies.

So I put it in the cubbyhole next to the back door. It is a shelf with a cabinet below it, and a cupboard above it, and a window behind it. Up top is a light, and a couple outlets. A 13" TV, VCR, and DVD player all fit nicely in that area. I put a towel between each one for some cushioning.

To secure them, I put 4 toggle bolts in the wall, one at each corner of the cubbyhole. But instead of screws, I used 1/4-20 eyebolts with nuts and fender washers. When traveling I cross about 4 bungee cords over the components and attach them to the toggle bolts. About 2000 miles so far and all is good.
