T-170 SunRay

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 1990 T170 SunRay Camper. I am completely new to camping, yet am excited. I am very handy but do not know anything about campers. The camper is in pretty good shape, needs a good thorough cleaning inside and out and a little TLC here and there. If there is anything that anyone can share about this camper, I would be extremely grateful. Anything at all, I'm all ears and willing to learn. Thank you in advance for your time and patience.

Hi JrGangi,

First off, congrats on your new Sunny! and glad you found us.

We are open to any and all questions you may have. We too were new to campers at one time and had to learn a lot and we still are.

What would you like to know about? We have many posts on many many things that have needed to be fixed or replaced or even how to camp with the camper and or your truck etc. You can be reading for days, weeks and maybe by now, years... to get through them all.

If there is a specific area you want to know about, create a post and ask about it. I see you know how to load pics, great as these really help show the area you can ask about if you are having a problem.

If you do not know the background on the maintenance of your camper, that is a good place to start some learning. The axle, brakes and tires, the roof for seams and sealants to not get a leak, the LP gas system, the battery and 12 volts system, the appliances can use yearly looking and maintenance too.

Hope this helps and have fun with your new camper!

John

Thanks. Needs some TLC, not bad at all though. I'm still just trying to figure out everything works. Between the water and the gas.

Just an FYI that you both have a STARray, not a SUNray. Those were both actually Sunline models. The SunRay was in 1988-89, the StarRay in 1990-91. As such, SunRay models have tan exteriors like the other Sunlines of the time. StarRays have a light gray exterior, also like the other Sunlines of the time.

The Sunray name also became a brand name in more recent years, often associated with the Smokey model. The Sunray Smokey is completely unrelated to Sunline and is primarily based on the west coast.

Yep, it is indeed a STAR RAY!

Hey there, Sunline Fan. Can't get by you, b'gosh. You're right of course, it is a Sunline Star Ray, and the pics in my "travel trailer to tower trailer conversion" posting include a close up of the 1990 Anniversary edition decal right by the door.

Believe it or not, the seller's P.A. title incorrectly named the manufacturer of my Star Ray as a Sun lite instead of Sunline.

I think I'm getting too much sun...

Grey not tan? or the other way around SunlineFan? JuGangi and my trailer are the same color, sort of a light tan/beige?

Interesting. Sun Lite is another brand too, built in Indiana and unrelated to Sunline. I do see it as a mix up every so often. Have you checked to make sure the VIN on the title matches the trailer?

It could be your paint has faded out to look more tan, but it isn't the dark tan that 1989 Sunlines had. Below is a picture of a pretty rare 1989 StarRay, which the StarRay line replaced the SunRay late in the 1989 model year. It has the tan siding:

Of course a pic may not render colors exact, that's a "white balance" thing...and looks like a cloudy day, another factor. Then there's my monitor, or your monitor, on and on.

But, for my money, that trailer looks exactly like my Star Ray right down to the color. I'll of course see the unfaded color when I start disassembling and uncovering the various parts shielded from the sun. I am only slightly curious...

Some nice-looking Sunlines especially when you consider their age… as far as campers go!
