Sunline 280SR

Hi folks, I am new to the forum. We are looking at a 2000 280 SR and need specs on it. Weight and tongue weight mostly. If anyone has that data, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here you go. In the files section, then brochures, then 2000, page 13. Or you can use the link.

Remember these are the factory dry weights... no propane or battery even. Don't let a dealer give you the run around. You'll need a big truck here. Tow ratings include everything in the truck plus the trailer plus everything in the trailer. Figure on at least 8500 lb. if there're just two of you; 9000 lb. if kids, bikes, firewood and water. The tongue weight could also go closer to 1200 lb. than 1000. Several members have SR's and might chime in with their first hand experience.

Hi rlocicero

1st off welcome to the club! A great place with a lot of nice folks.

I looked up the 2000 T280SR. Wow that is a 10,000# GVWR TT. Front kitchen, dry wt of 6,075 with dry tongue of 780#

Here is something I can offer. This past summer I did some tongue weighing at the Buttonwodd M & G.

A 2005 T280SR has a loaded tongue weight of 1,125#. This fine camper peron also did a lot of weight and balance work and loaded up the rear storage area under the bed to offset the heavy tongue and still keep his tongue weigth in the right % of loaded GVW. See PTHutch on the forum here, he has scaled axles weights too.

Front kitchens do weigh a lot on the tongue but you can help balance them out by the rear cargo area. Point is, you will need to work at this, not a lot, but a trip to the scales once loaded will be in order.

I do not know what your TV is, but it will be a minimum of a 3/4 ton suspension. A loaded 1,200# tongue weight can be easily obtained.

It' also odd Sunline derated the 2005 GVWR from the year 2000. If I recall right it is 8,600 GVWR

Hope this helps

John

PS To Henry’s point my T310SR is 1,400# loaded tongue with full fresh water. But I have a floor plan that loads even more to the tongue. A rear living area TT. I had to watch and load/balance correctly to get the tongue weight to stay as low as 1,400. Floor plan and where and how you load stuff affects the tongue weight.

My 286SR (which is very similar and the replacement for the 280SR) has a 1250# tongue weight without that back cabinet loaded.

Welcome to the club.
We have a 2005 280SR.
Here's a link to a post where we shared what our 280SR Weight when we weighed it at a CAT scale.

In summary, when we weighed our 2005 280SR, with normal loading for a week-end camping trip, it's weight was:

TT Tongue – 1,140 lbs
TT Axles (both) – 7,140 lbs
Total – 8,280 lbs

You can PM me if you're interested in other information on the 280SR.

Hope this helps.
Hutch
