Sunline 2670 Issues

I have a 2000 Sunline Solaris 2670 with some issues I would like opinions on.

I am now on an extremly tight budget for trips and upgrades due to roof repairs and the DW expecting a 2nd little camper in the family. Most of our camping will be dry camping in State Parks on weekends. After reading many others upgrades and modifications, I've got the bug to make my Sunline a little better.

1. I already purchased a second Interstate Battery, SRM-24, 690 Marine CA, 140 Reserve Capacity . Longest we'll be camping will be 3 days, 2 nights, moderate/cool climate. Should I run 1 till it's dead and then move the wires to the second battery, or should I hook them up in parallel? Should I install a cut-off switch? (Can't/won't use AC or Micro unless we get elec. site, no big deal).

2. My burgandy/navy blue decals are in poor condition, I think due to the former owner's careless use of a pressure washer. Knowing that decals are in short supply, would any owners be offended if I:
A. Utilized more current decals maybe from the 05-06 models as they more closely match my truck, or;
B. Have decals custom made (w/ Sunline on frnt/back of course) to match my truck.

3. I also would like to put the 4" lift on my TT. Has anybody done this themselves or should I let this to the pros?

Anyway, this isn't happening for a year or two now. Just wanted some opinions. Other than the dents/decals, DW and I are pretty proud of our Sunline! You may post here or pm me; Thanks!

The poor condition of the logos has nothing to do with the use of a pressure washer, well, maybe a little. The 2000 series logos are VERY well known for peeling and fading, mainly due to manufacturing flaws. These logos would no longer be available if Sunline were open because they threw the remaining ones out a few years ago after having so many issues with them. The original logo was a tri-color logo- depending on the way you looked at it, the sun would appear purple, orange, or red, if my memory serves me correctly. I have a prototype version of that logo, but I can't remember which colors appeared. Anyway, it's rare to find a 2000 Sunline with good decals. I'd personally recommend going as stock as possible and putting on some newer logos. I hear that Stoltzfus RV in Adamstown, PA has a stock of the new logos, but I have not investigated that. I have also learned of a Sunline auction coming up in April sometime, so you could pick some up there.

As for suspension lifts, were you thinking about the Dexter Over-under kit to "flip the axles", or something else? I have details on the Over-under, so let me know if you'd like more info on it.

Congratulations on your new (to you) Sunline – you’ll love it.

I would strongly recommend checking the tires on your trailer first before doing any other upgrades or improvements. If the original tires are still on the camper, I would recommend you replace them. Trailer tires only last 5 years / 20,000 miles. The tread may look brand new, but it’s the side walls that give out. Check for cracking in the side walls. Also, if your trailer didn’t come with a spare tire, I would suggest you get a spare tire and carrier.

To answer your questions - here is my opinon:

1. Hook the batteries up in parallel
Reasons: Convenience, plus both batteries will re-charge when the trailer is connected to shore power.
Install a cut-off switch
Reason: It will keep the batteries from being drained when the trailer is stored.
If no cut-off switch, remove fuses for radio and detector when trailer is stored.

2. I would not be offended, I'm more proud of you for taking good care of your Sunline.
We had a 1999 T-2670 that a couple of the decals pealed off also.
We pealed them off and never replaced them. The blank spot looked better then the ragged decals.

3. Flipping the Axels yourself (or just choosing to flip the axels) is a personal decision.

Depends on how handy you are and if you have the right equipment. I have heard of people doing it themselves. I considered having the dealer flipping the axels of our T-2670 but never did it.

If you do it, do the Dexter Over / Under Kit as Jon mentioned.

The biggest inconvenience of our T-2670 was because of its low profile the sewer drain pipes where low and some times the sewer hook-up was higher than the trailers sewer outlet. Though, for me, the inconvenience did not out weigh the cost of having the axels flipped.

However, if you’ll be doing primarily dry camping the trailer's low profile shouldn't be a problem for you. It's was only a problem for us on some full hook-up sites. We never had a problem with the low profile of the trailer at the dump stations.

Another reason I didn’t flip the axels, I felt the lower profile would tow better. I thought flipping the axels would create additional drag due to the added height of the trailer creating more front surface wind drag.

I would ask yourself why you want to flip the axels and raise the trailer up. If it's because you’re having some problem the raising the trailer will correct it, then I would consider it. Otherwise, it’s a personal choice. Like I said, I choose not to do it.

Like I said, our previous Sunline was a 1999 T-2670. Here are some of the other self modifications we did on ours:

Inside:
1. Put 3 shelves in the wardrobe closet across from the bunks. The kids used the shelves for their cloths. Top shelf we used for food.

2. Put a shelf in each bunk. Kids used the shelf to store their “stuff” (e.g., books, CD/MP3 players, etc.)

3. In-Line water filter (installed under sink)

4. Soap holder and shampoo dispenser in shower

Note, in our new trailer, we’re not using the soap holder, we’re using liquid soap in the shampoo dispenser. Less messy.

5. Kleenex holder in bunks, sofa, & front bedroom.

6. Installed an extra outlet in the Bathroom.

7. Put a self on side of front bedroom wardrobe closet for a clock radio.

8. Put in an extra outlet in front bedroom on side of wardrobe closet, near the floor, to plug the clock radio into.

Outside:

9. Intalled MaxAir Vent Covers on all exterior vents. This allowed vents to be open when raining and during storage.

10. Intalled Power front tongue jack, this was a back saver.

11. Intalled BAL stabilizer jacks on all four coners

12. Optima Awning Center Support Bar (had dealer install this)

13. Intalled Tornado Flush Kits in both Gray & Black Tanks
I had problems with the tank level gauges reading correct. Once I installed the tank flush kits the gauges got cleaned and I didn’t have any more problems with them.

14. Intalled an exterior A/C Grill Cover. The A/C of the 1999’s had exposed fins. The grill cover protected the fins from getting damaged.

15. Intalled 4” Skid Wheels. We dragged a lot and the angle iron drag bars eventually bent. So I cut them off and installed skid wheels.
This was my alternative to fipping the axels - it was a lot cheaper.

16. Added a splash guard to the tow vehicle. This really help protect the front of the camper from stone chips, etc.

Enjoy your T-2670. We loved ours. Had it for 7 years and put more than 30,000 miles on it. It was a great floor plan for our family of 5. We have a lot of great memories of family vacations with it. The kids are now in college, so DW and I have moved on last year to a Sunline floor plan for the two of us.

2000, t-2570, same decal issues, I just bought the big logo decal from Ken at stoltzfus in adamstown pa., he shipped it to ga. in a pvc pipe, no probs. A bit pricier than factory but factory not an option now. Newer version, not exactly same size & the colors don't match exactly but close enough that it looks better than nothing.

2 batteries parallel with a cut off switch my preference.

I know the low rider blues at two dumps so far but I've used my plastic stack levelers as a couple of inches usually gets enough angle to flow. I figured to just put up with the occaisional grief. My trailer pulls so good part of me is afraid to mess with it.

$40 and some change incl shipping for the big sun logo. Factory had quoted about 10 bucks less but they closed before i got the check to them in the mail.

Wow, I guess logo values really went up! When I was at the factory in June, I thought about buying the new logo, but it was really expensive, as all current year logos are always more, so I held off. I regret it now.

What is this about a factory auction in April? Are there details yet as to exactly when, a listing of items, etc? I'll be going right near there on the way to Spring Carlisle toward the end of the month. I had the factory tour 2 years ago and was impressed. I'd like to pick up a full size sleeper for a 264SR if they have one reasonably priced.

Thanks for the responses; glad to know that the decals were semi-defective. Undecided what I'll do with decals... The batteries will be hooked up in parallel with a cut-off switch.

Thanks Jon; I thought Sunline had made a lift kit for trailers that was similar to extended shackles; but I didn't know about flipping the axles. I'd be interested in either if the kits aren't expensive. I have a friend who's a good fabricator and has a shop this could be done in.

My trailer has casters on the back, but my main issue is the drop bar on my hitch. It is 14" overall drop length. I can cut 1" from the bottom(?) , but that won't gain me much. I snag it on the road pulling out of my driveway now, and DOT is repaving the road this summer, adding another 2". They'll taper into my driveway, but I don't think that will really help the breakover angle.

My trailer does pull nicely. Will it pull much different with the lift kit?

The tires appear to be pretty good; moderate tread left and no visible cracking on the sidewalls or in the tread. I do have a spare but need to check it more closely.

Thanks Hutch for the info on your 2670. I would like to do the shelves in the bunks and maybe in the closet too, as well as vent covers, and other things you did. As I get closer to being able to do some of these things, I may pm some of you.

I checked the auction website and am planning to attend Tuesday the 17th, since I will be in the area. It appears the entire factory is going. The only thing I didn't notice on the block was the buildings themselves. Too bad!

The buildings and property were never sold to the new company owners in 2004. The buildings and property were retained by the original Sunline owners. So, maybe the property will go up for sale at a later date, or will be retained by the original owners.
