Replacemnt Awnings

Hi all -

We removed our A&E awning - the actual material was brittle and
cracking where it connected to the gutter, the mechanism in the tube
was hanging up and one support was soft. The previous owner had
apparently bent it then straightened it out. Now I know what chipped off paint on awning supports indicate!

So we are looking at 17' awnings.

I'm not too impressed with the old one and I'm wondering if there are
better brands or models. The old one seemed pretty awkward to me.
One thing in favor of A&E though is we have a screen room that looks
to be brand new so it would be nice to be able to keep and use it if
possible.

Any tips?

Thanks! Jon

Hi Jon,

I’ve never replaced an awning or looked to getting a different awing or experienced with any different brands, so I can’t help you much.

But A&E has a lot of different models and types of awnings. You may want to check out the A&E Domentic web site to see what they have. If your Sunline is older, you may find that Dometic has made many improvements to their awnings from what you currently have / had.

Carefree Awnings seem popular, but I have not experience with them.

Here’s another link that may be helpful in researching different types of awnings:

Sorry I wasn’t more help.

Jon,

Replace your awning with a Carefree of Colorado. It is the best awning on the market and does not compare to the A&E. We had to replace the awning roller tube on our 2653 once and then replaced the whole awning later on when it was ripped off in the wind. We replaced the awning with a Carefree because we were on a trip and that's all the local dealer had in stock. I was so impressed with Carefree awnings that I'd never order another RV without it.

The Cafefree is a lot easier to open and close. It also has awning clamps mounted right on the arms. They aren't the best clamps in very high winds, but it is helpful if you don't have clamps or don't feel like digging them out when you put the awning up.

Here's a pic of that Carefree awning set up at the first place we stayed at after the installation:
