Reinforcing lower awning brackets

We have a 1990 Sunline T170 TT. It seems I need to reinforce the lower awning brackets. I see the black "plastic" membrane on top of the steel frame rails. It looks as though that was laid down in one large sheet before the floor was installed. doesn't seem possible to remove or fold it back, do I need to cut open a "flap" to access the sidewall? I'm sure that cutting a piece right out will be harder to replace later to keep critters out. The location of the needed reinforcment seems to be right at the corner where the floor and wall meet but I would rather not have to remove the front dinette seat or rear couch/bed to gain access to and cut out the wall paneling. any suggestions?
