Parts question

What is the actual name of the exterior junction box next to the battery cutoff switch? I need the cover for it. Thanks.

That maybe a problem because it's not a high voltage box a electrical supply probably will not have any thing. It may be possible to make one out of a piece of plastic.

Yeah I was hoping an RV parts place would have something similar that I can use. Was just wondering what the "official"part name was.

They make all sizes of waterproof electrical boxes but to replace one would involve removing all the wiring and putting it back together again. Maybe you could make a paper template and take it to an electrical supply house but generally the boxes are square. Me I would go to HD and buy a piece of lexan

That cover.... I nicknamed it the evil cover. It started on 2004 models I think. The screws are so tiny, like a no 2 maybe a no 4 screw. phillips head no less and it is buried deep inside a blind hole that gets filled with dirt from towing.

Odds are high they had to service one of the self resetting breakers inside and they broke the cover getting it off as they did not figure out the screws.

I converted the screws to no. 8 stainless and went in and stopped at the end of the cover rather then 1" inside the cover. This is what you are looking for.

Official name for the box, h'mm don't know. Maybe "header junction box", or "7 wire plug junction box"

Unless you can find the exact make and model of this really thin brittle plastic box, I do not think a store bought cover will fit. This really is not a NEMA style waterproof junction box. I added 3M 33 tape around the cover to help keep some of the water out.

The 1/4" thick Lexan suggestion is a good one. You can spray paint it black if you do not want to see the things inside. You can make a gasket too if wanted.

Hope this helps

John

One more hint if you use lexan paint the inside whatever color you like it will never come off.

I like that approach, I used the original screws, but screwed 1/4 inch diameter bolts into the holes on top of the screws threaded in finger tight to seal the holes from filling with mud. It took quite a while to get the box open with all the mud in there. Now it is easy.

To the op, I’d look at one of the big box stores, lots of options there for something similar and switch the whole thing out. That area gets quite a bit of spray/mud.
