Just saw a Sunline for sale
Only the second Sunline I've ever come across, (not counting my own).
It was sitting in the For-Sale lot at the Air Force base down here.
It looked like it has been stored uncovered for years, but otherwise it looked nearly unused.
It was a 2004 Solaris (29 footer) for $6900 obo.
I almost took down the phone number just so I could talk to another Sunline owner.

I just told the Dear Wife about it, and she started pondering the idea of buying it ourselves.
What have I done?

It's the "Kitty Effect"!!!!!
Actually, I believe it may just be a case of Sunline fever... Either way, it can get expensive AND be lots of fun!

Well, hopefully its in "ready to use" condition. Trust me, you don't want to get into the we can "repair/remodel it" to make it suit our needs. Also make sure it has the amenities that you are both happy with. We currently have a little 17 1/2SB Sunline under the carport that we are planning to remodel to "SELL" (Gary make sure you understand the "SELL" part). When he mentions using it once it's remodeled, I ask him if he's nuts. Like I'm gonna give up 33' containing a huge slideout, huge bed, comfortable sofa, fireplace, ceiling fan etc. and go back to roughing it in a 17 footer. Told him I hope he has a nice trip, see him when he gets home.
SO, while owning a "non" toyhauler might offer a few more creature comforts, trying to use & maintain 2 rigs is a bit of a chore.

H'mm I just heard this same comment today. Cindy and I where talking about what are we going to do when we need a new camper. I said I can rebuild what we have once we ever figure out what the future of gas is going to do 5 to 6 years from now. I said it may take a year to do this and I can pre-do a lot of the cabinets etc to cut down the camper out of commission time.
So... she said well then we are not camping. I said, ah no... we can borrow Ben's pop up. (Son Ben) Well in less then 10 nano seconds....Cindy said: "No Way am I going back to that again...." So we talked a bit and said, well we may have to buy a decent used camper, camp in it while the T310 is down and then sell it. I didn't bring up the fact the perfect T2499 left this spring... as I could not get her back out in that one either once we had the T310.
I'm hoping for the America way to take over and some one come up with an alternative fuel or truck that we can afford to keep our way of RV travel life in the T310 size camper.... At least for now anyway. I'll let you know in 15 years if we change our minds....

Well, I figure unless someone or something hits & totals the Sunny, it should last as long as Gary & I are able to rv. Why do I say this ?? Well, until July 2005 I was rv'ing in a wonderful little 1986 Sunline T-1661, so that little Sunline was 19 years old. Look at the "vintage" trailers that have been restored and are on the road.
I see no reason other than an accident for us to have to worry about a Sunny replacement.
OH , "if' Sunny needs major repairs and can't be used for a while Gary better hope he can do the repairs during the winter, so we don't have to miss camping time.
I don't want to do any camper "shopping", I like to look at the new stuff, but so far Sunny suits me just fine. And I really don't want to go larger because Gary doesn't need any more to take care of.
But, if something major happened to Sunny, I'd probably be looking for a used Excel.

I have experienced this same phenomenon... grew up in a pop-up camper and went all over the country in that (with my family of 7). Then when I was out on my own I started with a 24' Sunline, then a 26' Sunline, then the F-293SR, and now, a 39' SOB with four slides. And we only have a family of four.
What I would miss most going back to a TT or a smaller fifth is the basement of my fiver. There is so much stuff down there that we now "must have" that I don't know where I'd put it all if we went smaller. Also, the wife has managed to fill most of the kitchen cabinets with who-knows-what... but thankfully the kitchen is directly over the axles so the contribution to pin weight is minimal.
Moral to the story -- when you upgrade in size, be prepared to accept the fact you may never be able to go to a smaller trailer again. Which is unfortunate, because I really miss the flexibility we had pulling that 26' Sunline TT.
Trade-offs!

We run into the "size" issue all the time when we try to set up trips with my brother-in-law. His 40' L x 13'6" H Cedar Creek fiver and Volvo tractor just won't go some of the places our 276 does.

Mack, the problem I have is more the height than it is the length. 12'11" on my rig makes it hard to get into a lot of parks where they do a poor job trimming the branches. I refuse to risk the roof of my fiver by letting branches drag across it. This, more than anything, is the biggest consideration I have when choosing a campground.
I also carry a tree lopper/pruner with extension in the basement, so I can reach any branch that must be trimmed if I get into a situation where I don't have any choice. I always ask when arriving at a new place if this is OK, and so far, nobody has said I can't do that.
I would advise this as a point of consideration to anyone thinking about moving from a TT to a fiver. The fiver offers many benefits, but like I said there are trade-offs.

Yes, this is where he has issues too. @ 13'6" to the top of the A/C unit on the front of his rig makes things dicey. He's had to make some interesting moves driving in reverse when the low bridges weren't marked well in advance.
My brother-in-law bought his Volvo tractor after blowing a softball sized hole in the oil pan of his Power Stroke coming off a mountain in New England!! He said he wanted more braking power!!!
The funny thing is, even with the size of his rig, he's into boon docking more than we are. My wife is of the opinion: "I have the comforts, I'm going to use them." So, full hookups are a must, and if they are not available, electric and water are the bare minimums. But, we've gotten to the point where we just let him pick a spot to go, if he can get there, we can cruise!!!!

Well John I guess I have to agree with Cindy - there is no way I'm "stepping down" to a smaller unit....and we only have a 2499 - not nearly as large as some of the other units.....

Size Matters?
Hi, Guys,
DW and I had this "size" debate when we bought our T-286. Since we use it, part time, as a summer home, and part time as a real travel trailer, it needed to be a compromise. We were aware that we might have been excluding ourselves from some of the more exotic places that we might want to boondock, but we decided we needed the room for our "summer home" moments.
The 286 is right at 30 feet in length. While planning our western trip for this spring, we have encountered a few locations where 30 feet is a problem. However, there seem to be few of them, and when a problem arises, we always find an alternative, right down the road. All in all, we have found the 286 to be an excellant compromise for our purposes.
That doesn't stop us from day dreaming. Just like a lot of us, we started out with a pop-up, upgraded to 29' Rockwood, and then to our present trailer. The other week, we found a Sunline F-304SR sitting on dealer's lot in Bay City, Michigan. It was in excellant shape for an excellant price. We day dreamed about trading, but, just like most of you, decided that the restrictions that a Fiver would impose on us and our travels just wasn't worth it. But, dreams are nice.
In the debate about the best tow vehicles, I do, of course, come down on the side of the diesels. We pulled the Rockwood with a half-ton pick up, and found that the power requirements weren't quite there. I also did not like the seemingly inherant instability of a half-ton's suspention in heavy-traffic freeway conditions. A half-ton seems too susceptible to wind-driven sway,
in my opinion. Since we upgraded to the 3/4 ton Dodge diesel, I've been very happy with the performance. It has certainly made long trips more enjoyable and comfortable.
Just my 2 cents.
Dennis

Well, back to the original trailer in the post...
1st - Its a 24 footer, not 29 like I said in the OP.
2nd -However, since our 30 footer is a toy hauler with a separate garage, our living area is really only about 20 feet.
This trailer would be an upgrade in size.

So...does this mean you are contemplating a "new" Sunline?
Do you know if it is a T-2363 (rear bed) or T-2499 (rear livingroom)?

Oh, we wouldn't be getting rid of the toyhauler. We'd just use the Solaris when we didn't need the garage.
So this would be the secondary RV.

This is the T-2499.
We are just toying with the idea of buying. We're not set on it, yet.
