If your converter is working properly (and your kill switch is not off), yes your battery should be charging when plugged into shore power.

And there are no blown fuses....

(Remember that pesky 30 amp Charge Line fuse that no one knows about! When I popped mine a few years ago, I had to call the factory to find out where it is located!)

I don't want to highjack the thread but, for those of us who are new to the group, could you tell me where this hidden fuse is located (if it even exists on my old '99 T2370). Thanks.

Jim, in my '99 T-2453, it is called the Battery & Charge Line Fuse. Mine is located on the floor under the couch, which is in the very front driver's side of the coach, right next to the front wall. It is located inside a little wooden box which is screwed down to the floor. I need a #2 box head driver to remove the cover.

It is about 6"x6" and stands 1.5" tall. Mine is labeled:
Battery Fuse
30 Amp.
Fusible Link

If you trace the main battery hot line from the battery towards the convertor, you should be able to locate this fuse. I looked at your floor plan in the '99 brochure, and I would start by looking under the bed in one of the corners, most likely somewhere near the front wall of the trailer. On my trailer, the big red wire from the battery goes up into the floor just behind the front wall of the unit, and goes right into the above mentioned box. This is just behind the A-frame. The large red wire comes up through the floor right into this wooden box.

My trailer came with a drawing that shows the location of every item and connection in or on the trailer. It is basically a marked up and annotated floor plan. If you have all the original paperwork for the unit, you should have this drawing, too. It's no perfect, but it gives you a starting place to look for these things. If you don't have that drawing, someone else on this forum may have one. Possibly Sunline Fan.

Jim

On your model, I would look under the front bed. We had a 99 T-2670 with a front bedroom. The fuse was located in a box on the floor under the bed near the front of the trailer. The box had a slide top that pulled / slide to open up the box to expose the fuse.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys...seems I do remember there being a small wooden box attached to the floor under the bed. Next time I am out at the storage lot, I will check that out. You learn something new every day.

Thanks again,
Jim

My '98 has that box in the front cabinet on the floor (under sink). I only opened it once and don't remember what all was in there. Next time I'm in it, I'll snap a pic.

Hidden fuse

How about on a 1990 T1550. I don't have any original paperwork except for the stuff I downloaded off here.

I don't know of one, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Check under both dinette benches. It may also be by your breaker panel in the back.

Sorry for not posting the pics sooner. I know I posted them somewhere else on here, but not in this topic. Here they are:

A far away view. This is under the kitchen sink in the very front of the trailer:

Look in the bottom of the dinette seats, probably starting with the driver's side of the trailer. It should be a wooden box about 6"x6"x2" mounted on the floor of the compartment fairly close to the front wall of the trailer.

The lid of the box will be held on by a couple of screws and it may have a label.

Jon's pictures are real accurate, and I believe that Sunline used that simple box design for many years for this fusing, especially in the '90's.

Steve, my cover isn't held on with any screws. It just slides on. Is yours held on with screws?

Yup. It sits down between the fresh water tank and a bulkhead. Not really any space for the lid to slide far enough in any direction.

So there's just a couple of screws holding the square of wood on the box.

Volt meter

Of course if you have a volt meter, you can check to see if the fuse link is good, just by measuring the battery voltage, before plugging in and after plugging in to shore power. The voltage should and does increase that's how I know my converter is charging my battery.

That's very true if the trailer is correctly wired.

In another current thread in the Repairs and Maintenance section called Electrical Gremlins which is on almost the same topic, a user there said that the battery appears to be charging even though the fusible link is blown. That indicates that power is getting around the link and still reaching the battery from the charger. This condition would suggest that there is something amiss somewhere in the system. The fusible link (or 30 amp system fuse in the case of older units) should totally isolate the battery from the rest of the system except for the break-away circuit.

The meter alone may not necessarily tell the whole story. That's why actually looking at the fusible link (or fuse) may be equally important.

Check your monitor panel when the trailer is plugged in. If your rig has the normal monitor panel with the four LEDs and the push pad for the different options (ie. black, galley, grey, and battery) push the battery button. If all four of the lights come on the battery is being charged. Three lights, when unplugged, is a full battery. Then two equals 2/3 full, and one equals 1/3 full.

Just an update: This fuse was also included on the '02 2363. It's located on the floor of the front 'cellar,' under the sofa, about 24" from the traffic side bulkhead in the 6" x 6" wooden box. Our unit has just the one 30A blade-type fuse in the main supply line from the battery.

I'm glad to have learned about this, because otherwise I might never have known of its existence.
