Anyone recognize our new Sunliner Satellite 1986 T-2152?
Hi everyone! I'm new here, but I'll save the intro for the Newbie page post I intend to write in a few.
I just wanted to reach out here and see if anyone recognizes our new Sunny. We love her already and are counting the minutes until we pick her up on Saturday morning. There's no way the previous owner isn't a part of this group! She's lovely and just enough naked for me to have fun with the remodel and not lose interest.
Love the group already!
-Lorie

Welcome Lorie! I haven't been as active here in the last couple years as I had been, but I don't recognize that. Between the period correct awning and the repainted stripes, it's pretty recognizable. The brown color they picked to paint the stripe with really compliments the tan siding well, I think better than the blue and reds of the time.

I agree! I love the tan, orange and navy. They modified the inside and didn't stick to the factory look at all, but it's just what I wanted. Cool on the outside and potential on the inside. Here's a few more pics. When we get her home tomorrow, I'll take a few more. Hopefully I have the follow thru to document my continued mods. So happy to find you all ❤️️

Wow, they really brightened that up! My fear with interior paint though is that they covered up water staining/water damage by doing that. Hopefully the roof has been recently sealed and they did it strictly for cosmetic purposes.

That's my biggest fear, but it's evident the roof has been recently sealed. But recent and longfully neglected are 2 different things, right? I know for sure there's water damage to the roof, but it's "crunchy" in a 1x1 ft area only (that we've noticed so far) and, well...I fell in love at first sight! I'm really just hoping for the best and grateful I didn't break the bank...yet!

Yes, spot on! At least with it freshly sealed, it won't get worse, but of course any hidden damage won't get better either.
Interesting that you describe the roof as crunchy, where was this and what were you doing to get that? It should have an aluminum roof, which like rubber, you'll need to put boards down between the rafters in order to walk on it.
The biggest indicator of damage is smell, and even though the fresh paint will make it difficult, a Sunline with no water damage has a unique smell to it. Once water gets in and starts doing serious damage, you can smell that musty smell inside. If it doesn't really smell, you're probably good.
Another really good indicator, even though I've yet to try this myself, is "The Official JohnB RV Moisture Test", using a $20 moisture meter from Home Depot. It will detect concentrated areas of dampness in the walls. It isn't foolproof, but it should give you an idea of the extent of any water damage and where: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...per-17613.html

Thanks for the tip about the Moisture Detector. I'm going to run to HD tonight so I can check it out tomorrow morning. I found this picture of a similar trailer ceiling where the crunchy spot is. (It's right where the kitchen wall top, room divider and seam meet) I'm assuming it's rotted wood from the sound it makes, but it seems dry, not wet. No smell except apples cinnamon something. Should this be a deal breaker for us? Maybe I just had naive expectations that most older TT will have these issues. Like I said earlier, I'm hoping for the best. Just a bit worried that someone has tried to put lipstick on a pig. Thanks for the quick replies

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for the advice! I bought the moisture meter and we headed over to pick up the trailer. The ceiling was sagging and moist now where that crunchy sound was coming from when I pushed up last
Time. The picture of my finger is where I literally wiped cheap acrylic paint off a 3 inch hole filled with silicone that was the repainted front decal. . The moisture meter wasn't necessary but I used it anyway and all readings in suspicious areas read as HIGH. I surmissed the lack of smell was a combo of fresh paint and the fact that only one piece of original upholstery was left (and nasty dirty) above the doorway. There were countless other things that we noticed too. It's crazy that my eyes saw a completely different trailer today. Being informed just saved us a lot of money and regret. You're awesome!
And to top off a great experience, the delivery guy was 40 minutes late and attempted to argue and be aggressive with us. Deposit recovered.

Hi Lorie,
Whew, it sounds like you really dodged a bullet! It's certainly repairable, but with the damage covered up, it makes it harder to see everything to know how much work is required. Since it wasn't yours yet, it was best to walk away.
Hopefully JohnB sees this as he really needs the credit for the moisture meter. Hopefully you're one of many success stories to come of the moisture meter preventing a bad purchase.
Good luck in finding a less damp Sunline! Unfortunately all the older ones will likely have some degree of water damage since most people never reseal the trailers, but like I said above, if you can see the damage, you'll have a lot better idea of where it is and what's required. However, the bad part is once you see water damage inside, the hidden damage is always worse.

Hi Lorie,
Glad you were able to dodge that bullet! I did not know about the moisture meter when I bought my Sunny. It would have saved me a lot of work. Good luck. I am sure you will find another one.

Welcome Joseph! Unfortunately, coating the roof will not take care of the water damage. Due to the way these trailers are constructed, there's a lot of water trapped in the walls- in the wood and insulation. So coating the roof may have stopped the leak going forward, but it didn't remove the damage already done.

Hello Joseph. We were dealing with DelmarvaRV on that trailer. It makes me happy to know someone is happy with it. I love the way it looks with that striped awning. It was just what I wanted until the front decal (painted on top of a glob of silicone) wiped off with my finger and the ceiling was caving in and water making it’s way through on final pick up day. (It was pouring rain that day). I also thought all that silicone the previous owners used was a good thing until I started looking into proper RV sealant.
Truthfully, our decision to walk away had a lot to do with the dealership’s deceit as well.
We ultimately bought another Sunny (actually that same day). P. S. It also has water damage, but my husband and I are making memories with our son fixing it up.! Maybe we’ll see you around the Delaware campgrounds ⛺️

Joseph and Lorie - if your Sunline is on the road (or even if you have another unit you could bring), maybe you could make it to the Meet and Greet in Mifflintown PA the weekend of June 8-10. There are about 30 people already registered. Look in the forums for the post.

Looks exactly like my '87 T2153, only difference being I don't have twin beds or a sink in the bathroom. Otherwise, a carbon copy.
