A real frame shocker
Saw a Sunline 3075 toy hauler this weekend. It has a GVWR of 8600# and a dry tongue wt over 1000#. Couldn't believe it only has a 4" a-frame. Makes you wonder what the designers were thinking?

Well, since this is a toy hauler and since the idea of a toy hauler is to load the back of the unit with a lot of weight, I'm sure the 4" channel is more than adequate. Even with a 1000# dry tongue weight, the 4" channel is still adequate. Eman has tens of thousands of miles on his heavily overloaded T2499 with the same A frame with no issues.
There is NO proven issue with the 4" channel A frame. The only issue is with the thinner header with no adequate lower flange on some 2006 units.

I'd still watch/check it periodiocally as my 2499 normally ran with 975 #'s of tongue weight, and I had a 3 inch bow in the header. What causes this bow Well, from what I have read here is that the use of weight distrubition/sway control hitches causing the 4" channel of the A-frame to flex then the header bows. E-man is loaded way heavy and has realy put his unit to the test, BUT, his Sunline was one built with the revised A-frame design.

Emans A frame IS a 4" channel design so that says that there is no issue with the 4" channel. The redesign really ONLY addresses the header strength. He has the 10 gauge header with the larger flange. This is what previous designs had and had no issues.
Does the 4" channel twist more in use than the previous 5" channel? Probably, but the issue, at this point, is simply header strength. Almost any kind of reinforcement to the bottom of the header will correct the problem.
I think that it's a good idea to keep an eye on all the parts of your unit to make sure that nothing adverse is going on but I think that, at the moment, there is an unwarranted concern about the size of the A frame channel. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

Out of pure curiosity do you have any pic’s of you’re a frame and header setup?
The TT frames with issues so far are the redesigned 7,000# GVWR frames. They have existed from 2005 to some time period on the 2007 models.
The Eman frame that is refereed to here, and the Kathy H and Goodole Bob’s have the latest wave of fixes which includes the A frame in the center of the header. And the header is thicker and a larger flange width. This 7,000# rated frame is 6” I beam with 4” channel.
Is your Toy Hauler a 8,600# TT? And is it a 4” Channel on what width frame?
And do you know your loaded tongue weight with water if that is how you tow? With and without toys? Toy Haulers can have very high tongue weight once loaded with no toys in them. Meaning if you go camping in the TT but no toys your loaded tongue weight is different. The Toys do offset the tongue. Weekend Warrior had some really high tongue weights to the point of shocking. Sunline normally did a fairly good weight and balance job however floor plans and people loading habits drive loaded tongue weight as well as design.
The 4” C channel properly supported can hold a good amount of weight. However your TT may be different then the 7,000# frames with the issues. Before I go to much further it would be good to see what it is you have. The 8600# GVWR TT, non toy haulers have 6” A Frames from what fellow Club members have. Hutches 2005 and Sunline Fans 2007 are both 6” channel. With 10” I beam. As FYI my 10,000# rated frame also has 10” I beam with 6” channel A Frame. Loaded tongue weight on what style header is the concern right now more then the 4” channel.
