2590 electric outlets not working

Hi everyone .I seem to have a slight electric problem.All my outlets work in front of camper.But no bedroom or outside by the door outlets and the out side 12v light not working.It worked a few days ago.I looked in panel box and and my breakers are main -air-microwave-general purpose -converter. all my 12v lights work as does air and microwave.I checked back outlet with a meter and no volts.Is there another switch somewhere.Any help would be great Thanks Joe

also I have changed frig and have disconnected the 12volt to the frig I don't know if that could be prob but,I don't see how

What year is your camper?

What model converter and power distribution center do you have?

Is there any chance a previous owner has modified the electric system?

1992 no mods done

All of the 110vac in the trailer should go through the power center. If the power center has breakers, double check to make sure none are tripped. Best to turn them off and back on, one at a time.

If there is a GFCI (ground fault) outlet, make sure it is properly reset. Any outlets that are on that circuit and down stream from the GFCI will be dead if the GFCI is tripped.

It is possible that a PO added a switch somewhere. I think Gary (EMD_Driver) had that problem and finally found a hidden switch down low on the bed frame or nearby. It was definitely added after the rig left Denver PA. You will have go over your rig with a fine tooth comb.

It is also possible that a PO may have opened up an outlet somewhere and disconnected a downstream outlet or two.

This is one of those challenges best solved by boots on the ground.

plugged a lamp in an shut breakers off 1 at a time.each breaker is working as it should but no power to outside outlet and 3 bedroom outlets.so I guess I'll have to start tracing. Thanks Joe

Don't forget to check circuitbreakers with the test meter. Sometimes they will feel in the on position, when they are not. I learned that little lesson for $40. Our house air quit running. I went outside and flipped the breaker four times to make sure it was making good contact. The A/C guy looks at it, flips the breaker one more time and the A/C started running and has run just fine ever since. $40 dollars for a simple lesson. In fact the A/C guy felt sorry for me. He said regular charge would have been $80 but since it was so simple and he was close by he only charged half.

An ouside outlet should be GFCI protected. Look for these in the kitchen and bathroom. It's not unusual for several outlets to be downstream of the GFCI. If it isn't reset properly they'll all be dead.

As Mack said, check your GFCI, that very well could be the problem.

Sometimes the GFCI receptacles go bad too, and there's not much you can do but replace them. I think that happens when the reset button won't push back in, but that may not be the case. Being a 1992, it could be the problem. If you have a spare lying around, swap it out and see if it changes anything.

Code says an outside outlet has to be GFI protected and like Sunline Fan said they do go bad.

i have an 87 this happend to me but the gfi in the bathroom was the problem

Thanks for all the help.It turns out gfi was wired wrong. The line from breaker has to go on the LOAD of gfi and line out need to be on the LINE.Works fine know Thanks again EVERYONE

The wire from the circuit breaker goes to the LINE connection on the GFCI

The LOAD connection on the GFCI then goes to other outlets downstream that will be protected by the GFCI outlet.

Gene, you are 100% correct on this. Wiring the GFCI backwards is dangerous.

Yes a GFI wired backwards is no longer a GFI it's an outlet. New ones come with a piece of tape across the downstream connections. GFI testers are a bit pricey but the test button will tell you a story if it won't trip it's either bad or has no power to it. Personally I think every one with a TT or motor home should own a simple three lamp tester that plugs into one of your outlets they are less then $5 there a lot of DIYers working at campgrounds that don't know black from white much less what the green wire is all about.
