2007 Sunline T-1950 - axle question
Just traded my Que in for a T-2950 straight up!
Now, I would like to lift my T-1950 by flipping the axle. Need more clearance in the rear so that I can install a generator rack. My manual did not include the axle manufacturer information. Can someone tell me if it's a Dexter axle? If so, which model? I assume the 2750+lb model given the gvwr is 5500 lb. Thanks.

Hmm, so that's why your Que showed up on Best Buy's site and the 1950 disappeared...
Congrats!
My axles are LCI (Lippert Components), I'm not sure if yours are though.
I'm not 100% positive, but I think the Dexter over-under kit will probably work with them.

There should be manufacturer information somewhere on the axle tubes.

Congratulations on getting the T-1950! Our 2007 model has Lippert axles. We've considered lifting but not made any decision yet. And we've tried to come up with a way to mount our Honda 3000is generator on the rear. What size generator do you have?

wow, you keep track of all Sunlines being sold? Amazing, like a Sunline stalker! j/k
The Dexter axle, based on the pictures I've seen on this forum, appear to be very similar to my axle. I'll do a little more research before buying the kit online. Not sure if an brick and mortar stores carry it around here and I don't want to get stuck with two useless kits.

I have the Yamaha 2400k set, about 70lbs dry. I prefer not to mount it in the back bc it unstablizes the trailer but I just can't figure out a way to fit it on the tongue. I even considered relocating the batteries and getting rid of one of the propane tanks but it still looks like a tight fit.
For now, I think I'm going to lift the trailer, then install a hitch mount on the stock bumper (probably on the top of the bumper as opposed to the bottom). The spare tire won't really fit well so I've removed it and relocated it into the storage under the bed. That will also alleviate some of the tail weight.

The rear bumpers of the entire Sunline product line are only rated to carry 100 pounds. If you want to carry a generator on the back of the trailer, have a welding shop install some kind of platform that attaches strongly to the main frame rails of the trailer. Otherwise, you're pretty much guaranteed that the bumper will fail if you fasten a generator carrier on it. The torque effect of the weight on the bumper will matter.
There are a number of threads in the Modifications section about trailers that have been modified in various ways to accommodate various types of rear cargo. One even carries a motorcyle!
The 1950 in particular will be less unbalanced by extra weight on the rear due to the short body on a standard tandem axle setup. You'll still have to pay close attention to tongue weight, but that can be dealt with by moving items forward of the axles when on the road.
Best advice experienced Sunline owners will give you is that nothing heavier than a spare tire should be mounted directly to the bumper.

I was going to attach the generator mount as close to the existing bumper as possible in order to minimize the leverage effect. The gen is only about 70 pds. The spare tire and mount is probably about 40-50 pds.
I would get a real hitch mount installed, but I'm a bit worried about the height of the mount. I suppose that won't really be a problem once I lift it, but I'm also trying to save a few pennies.

peekay, the 299SR we got yesterday, has a 2" receiver that looks factory installed. It goes up under the trailer frame quite a bit and is under the bumper. I will get pics for you, as soon as I can. I know the bumper is rated for 100# but this setup looks quite a bit heavier.
When we bought our 320SR, we thought about mounting the generator the same way you are considering. After seeing a few others and the way they flopped around back there, we decided against putting it back there.
