1987 Saturn Question

I was just wondering why the shower drain looks like there is water in it even after dumping both the grey and black tanks. I was wanting to completely drain all water out of the trailer. Any help will be appreciated

I'm just taking a wild guess, but I think there is a "P" trap under the shower. The same that you see under your sinks. The "P" trap keeps tank odors from coming into your coach from the holding tanks. If I'm wrong, I'll be corrected by someone shortly,

Kitty, you are 100% correct. The water visible when looking down the shower drain is the small amount that sits in the P trap to prevent odors from backing up into the trailer from the gray water tank. The bathroom sink and kitchen sink also have P traps, but the water is harder to see, especially in the kitchen.

Indianasunny, if you really need to get the water out of the P traps, take a shop-vac, set the hose on exhaust instead of suction, stick the tube into the drain, and blow the water out. I do that in the fall when winterizing before I do anything with the pink antifreeze.

Rather than trying to get all the water out of the trailer for winterizing, I simply pour anti-freeze into all the traps. This insures that even if there is residual water or a little water gets into the trap via a vent or whatever, there's anti-freeze to prevent cracking.

I admit to being an over antifreeze guy, even adding some to the black and gray tanks.

I'm right there with ya Norm. I don't care how much extra I use, I don't need any frozen lines, drains. I do the hot/cold water lines, traps, black, gray and even fresh water tank, and just rinse well in the spring.

Bottles of anti-freeze are cheaper than replacing the lines

Hey, thanks for the information. I didn't even think about that, I thought it wasn't draining right or something. Anyway I will be sure to put antifreeze in before winter. Thanks again.
