Hanging Stuff

Hello All,

We just bought our Que SE and can't wait to take it on the road. In trying to personalize it a little (Ellen not Mitch) I want to hang some things on the walls. What is the best way to do that a) without doing any damage; b) not having things fall off the walls. I am thinking maybe a small shelf, a tv wall mount, some hooks... You get the picture.

Glad to get to know you all.

Ellen

Hi Ellen,

I use a 3M automotive adhesive tape to hang all pictures, and I get the 3M Command Adhesive hooks for using on wallpaper. They both work well most of the time. I've only had one picture fall off the wall, but I think that was due to the frame being rough on the back side. The automotive tape is a speciality item, but 3M makes a similar product available in stores like Target, Wal-Mart, etc. The way to tell this tape over others is the red cover paper and the dark gray color of the tape. I have hung things as heavy as a little 3 basket cubby by the entry door, but wouldn't recommend anything heavier than that. If you want to install a TV mount, you will have to drill holes somewhere.

The "cherry" is really just a paper product so I was afraid of anything sticky - even those 3M Command removable hooks seemed like they'd rip that stuff if they started to pull off. We have screwed some things into the wood up by the ceiling. ie. We have a coat bar with 3 hooks on the side of the wardrobe. We put a robe hook on the space between the wardrobe and bathroom door. In the bathroom we have 2 towel hooks above the toilet. All of these are up by the ceiling. We also put cup hooks right inside the door for keys, wisk broom, etc. If you take the drawer out you can see where the wood is to bite into. We also found wood in the ceiling above the TV shelf and hung a 3 tier wire basket there.

What cherry are you referring to? I thought everything was wood.

Everything is wood. But I believe the woodgrain look on top of the wood is fake. I bumped our sofa zipper against the wall of the wardrobe and it took a little piece off of the surface. It seemed awfully easy to damage. Someone can please correct me if I'm wrong.

Folks....

The cherry finish on our Que is a very thin veneer (of whatever the top layer is) and a bit fragile. I've touched up corner nicks & scratches with dark cherry varnish stain (satin gloss), and put plastic "wallpaper protectors" on the outside corners to prevent recurrences.

Although I really like our Que, this is a model that had no follow-up years for the factory to iron out glitches. We get to do that!
