Taking down the bathroom door mirror?

We were thinking about taking down the bathroom door mirror as we just don't use it. On the 2363, it's on the outside of the bathroom door. Were wondering if any one here has done this and/or any advice on it? No idea how it's attached to the door and how easy it may or may not be to take off? All advice welcome!

Maybe someone will find the old discussion about this, but as I recall the conclusion was that they're glued on and the best tactic is to cover it. Somewhere on here there's a picture of a beautiful quilted wall hanging that Cindy B (JohnBs wife) made to cover theirs.

Hey Lisa...hope this helps! I took one off a few years ago when I reversed the swing of the door..got my instructions from Sunline on how-to remove pictures from the wall, and then used it later on the door project.! First you will need dental floss and mineral spirits. Use the dental floss as a "saw"..carefully pour a little mineral spirits down the inside top of your mirror to loosen the adhesive of the double-sided picture holding tape they used to secure it (I think I used an old squeeze bottle) ,then slide a good length piece of dental floss and "saw" from side to side. It will become easy once the spirits does its job,so have someone hold the mirror for you. Also,I would put an old towel on the floor. Your door should then be easy to clean off the residue with a little more spirits on a cloth. Note: I did this on my '98 Solaris2653...and I would sure bet they used the same procedure on our 2002's !

Lisa..forgot to mention..the whole process took less than 10 minutes ! And I remember thinking, this will be a big project---NOT!! Let me know how it goes or..you may still have my number to phone me...Janalee
P.S. in older models they placed that mirror over the rear window valance (to make it look bigger?) I always removed mine..spooked me, !! It's a better place to put a nice flower swag ,like in mine!

Pam,

Thanks for the feedback! Thought I remembered a thread like that but don't know if their mirror was on the wall or the door. Maybe JohnB can answer that. I do remember that CarolB made a beautiful wall hanging for it. I admire anyone who can do that kind of artwork with material!

Janalee,

Ahhh, you answered what I was wondering: Is the mirror on the door attached with the same double-sided tape as the pix frames are or by some sort of nail/screw arrangement? If you recall, last year we wanted to change the original pix in the frame by the door b/c it was so faded and you - & a few other SOC members - told us about using fishing line to remove it from the wall, which we did. I also used Goo Gone and a Lil' Chizler plastic pot scraper to get off the remnants of the tape off the wall which worked great. (BTW, we're looking for another oak-brass pix frame like the one by the door if anyone has one they want to sell.)

So what you're saying is that the mirror is attached to the door with the same type tape and I should be able to get decent results using mineral spirits & fishing line to take it off the door. BTW, when you took the mirror off the door of your 2653, did you have any shadowing from where the mirror had been? I'm assuming with an 11-yr-old trailer that's a possibility.

I had seen some pixs of older models with the mirror above the rear window and wondered if that was "factory." Know that whole thing about mirrors making a space look larger and sorta' assumed that's why trailer companies put mirrors in the cabinets. Not so bad when you're younger but at my current age, the fewer mirrors, the better…

Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes!

Lisa...there was no mark left after removal...and fishing line is better than dental floss as I previously mentioned. Just remember if you dont like it you can always replace it.

The Results

Wanted to show the results of removing the mirror from the bathroom door. We used fishing line, mineral spirits, a Lil' Chizler (plastic wedge pot scraper), and a nylon scrubby. As Janalee recommended, we sprayed mineral spirits behind the door and let it soak for about 5 minutes then sawed with the fishing line behind the mirror. We got the mirror off the door, soaked the remaining tape with more mineral spirits, and used the Lil' Chizler and nylon scrubby to get the remainder off the door. Everything came off cleanly and, all told, it took less than half an hour. We're happy that there was no shadow of the mirror on the door and quite pleased with the results. Thanks for the advice! Here are some pixs of the results:

Matthew and Lisa,

Sorry I'm late to the party, however maybe you can help us. BTW ,your mirror removal came out GREAT!!!

The mirrors... yes have worked around the problem. For others following along here are the cover up options Cindy did

It hooks on

And we did this on the door of the T2499 too

And on the wall pic that we really did not care for.

Now to how you can help us. I thought I heard you removed a pic from the wall?

In our bathroom we have a mirror on the wall over the toilet. We ended up putting a towel rack over it and Cindy found contact paper as close to the wall board color as possible and covered it. Ideally we can get the thing off the wall.

I'm cautious about using the mineral sprits or goo gone on the wall board. Did you get yours off the wall board using the "Saw" method and did you use any chemicals to help get it off? And was there any staining of the wall board?

The doors have a shinny covering over the wood and I can see them not being penetrated as much by the chemicals but the wall board I'm more leery of. If someone has plowed this ground and knows it works, that would be helpful.

Thanks

John and Cindy

Hi JohnB...Taking the PICTURE off the wall was my posting awhile back.My first experience with this process was in taking a picture off the LR wall in a 2653,and the instructions I passed on to Lisa were the ones I received from Sunline themselves!I then later removed the one from my bathroom door.. I didn't have a problem with wallboard then and don't see a reason to now...it really hasn't changed much in the 26 years I have owned them.. If you are in doubt, test a spot where it won't be obvious. Janalee

Kathy & Leo,

Thanks!

John,

I love Cindy's quilting; she is very talented. It's amazing how she can pick fabrics that just go together so well and then make a picture out of it! Great solution for the mirrors.

Last year I took a pix frame off the wall so we could replace the very faded pix in it. ( Janalee and a few others were the advisors for that.) For the pix frame I simply used the fishing line to saw thru the tape without pre-soaking it and then used Goo Gone to get rid of the remnants on the walls. The Goo Gone did no damage to the wall covering, even with some scrubbing with a nylon scrubby. (Also used Goo Gone when Matthew took down some plastic hooks that were taped to the bedroom walls, no problem there either.) From the pixs you posted, the wallpaper in our trailers is the same so it shouldn't be a problem.

That being said, I think there's a thread about removing the over-the-toilet bathroom mirror which indicates that it might not be attached the same way. Ah, here it is:

http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...lls-12448.html

Sounds like there is construction adhesive behind the mirrors, in addition to the double-sided tape. If it was just double-sided tape, I might try taking down our over-the-toilet mirror too.

Hope this helps and happy camping!

Janalee and Lisa,

Thanks for the info. And to the link on the prior thread.... I must admit, I even posted on that thread...about this same mirror.. (don't remember it..., one too many posts to remember...) but the member that had the issue had a wood frame around the mirror which is different than ours.

It seems the methods have changed over the years. A mirror hanging on a door verses on a wall, cannot figure out why they would mount them different. The road vibration is close to the same. Unless over the years Sunline had an issue with the brand double sided tape and went to the adhesive to maybe later go back to 2 sided tape of a different brand??. I'll take the cautions under advisement. I do have a bail out plan on the mirror if I end up in a situation.

Thanks

John

Lisa, thanks for the good words on Cindy's work. Yes, she does wonders with material, thread, yarn and plastics mesh... I'm the wood and steel guy and she is the arts and crafts lady...
