Sunny 14 Fresh Water Tank Drain Mod

After reading JohnB's post about his mod, I had to do something similar to Sunny 14.. We bought the parts at Lowes (Another one of Kitty's Lowes "Fixes"!) and I took the time yesterday, to do it.

When I tried removing the plate that the plastic valve mounted to, the screws broke off. They were pretty rusted! I drilled out the holes and used 5/16" stainless bolts, to re-attach the plate.

Kitty didn't want an old style valve and decided on a quarter-turn. I drilled out the original valve's mounting hole and put the new valve in.

Here's the valve in it's place. I wanted a cap on it to keep critters out, but didn't want to have to keep spares on hand, for when one got misplaced. We got a small piece of chain and attached it to the mounting plate.

The chain is pretty long, so I wrap it around the valve for transport.

It works!

One thing I did not have to do, was tee off that line, to be able to draw water from the lowest part of the tank. The drain and supply holes in the tank, are both at the bottom edge of it. I'll get a pic of that later.

Good job!!!

A 1/4 turn boiler drain?? OK the Lowes in WV has different stock then in OH.....

The plastic cap, you for sure need one. Roam grime is worse then the critters.

Looking foward to how your tank low spot if made. Seems Sunline used a few different tank configurations. The 2005 in PTHutches is even different then my 2004's and it sounds like your 2003 is even more different.

Thanks for sharing.

John

fILL

We have added a fresh water drain to our tank as well. We put a "Y" ball valve on it and use it to fill the tank as well.

John,
Yes, that is a 1/4 turn boiler drain valve. Also.... I decided against a plastic cap, in lieu of a brass one. To me, the brass one looks nicer and it was easier to attach a lanyard chain to it. That way, if it gets left-off accidentally, it's less likely to become a projectile on the road.

Also... The drain and pump outlets are both at the bottom corner of the tank. I need to wait for my hip to get better, before I crawl under Sunny for pics.

Nice work, looks much more stout than my stock plastic one that came from the factory.

It is and I don't have to worry about it breaking off. The last two that I tried to turn, fell apart in my hand. A very worthwhile mod!
