Storage and hibernation

Pretty soon I will have to store the TT for awhile (November to March) here in Wisconsin.

I am debating how to store this - outside or inside. If I have to have it outside - I need some advice on the best way to cover the roof and keep the snow from building up on the roof.

It will be stored on a farm and I have thought about requesting permissiong to build a temporary wooden structure on the side of their barn to cover the TT but want to look at all of my possibles first.

Thanks.

Our '99 is being stored in shelter for the first time in its life this winter.

We never tarped it before, but did make sure the nose was higher than the tail by several inches to ensure it would drain quickly when ever the sun shone on it and caused any melting.

I have one of the snow rakes that car dealers use and that helps keeps the snow from building up too much on the roof.

Many people do store outside but given an option - go the sheltered route!

Yes for sure, I'll second that. If you can get it under cover, do so. The sun, the snow and ice are all negatives.

However Sunline did take into account snow and I remember one of our members posting they asked Sunline this question when they where still in business. They stated they where built for life in the north east and for snow loads. We never obtained a figure as wet snow if worse then fluff. If you search on the word "snow" here on SOC you should come up with several discussions on this from early this year. With all the snow in the all the states in the central and north east US we had a lot of talk on this in Jan - March.

I think Kitty had 3 feet on her fiver.... but she also has a walk on roof. I know I had at least 1 1/2 feet and I do not have a walk on roof. And we are in central Ohio where it is not suppose to snow like this...

Hope this helps

John

Hi John...

If memory serves, we had a total of 42" of snow on the fifth wheel. At the time, it only had a partial walk-on roof. There was a 4' wide strip of OSB, that ran the length of the fiver.

Heres one pic of the white crap, and there is a black Dodge Durango K-9 unit parked in front of the Sunline but you can't really see it.

AND, here is a picture of the 299SR that had been rolled and we were dis-manteling. It was pretty much a "skeleton" as the large slide out had been removed, it had 10 broken roof trusses, but it was not until the snow started to melt that the R rear portion of the roof/wall gave way. That was the side that landed on the ground/embankment during the rollover.

This really impressed Gary & I when we got to thinking about all the weight it was supporting after a roll over.

Guess it just supports our thoughts that Sunlines ARE one of the best trailers out there.

Kitty

Steve, who's the babe? When she finishes at your house, send her on down to Richmond.

I have no clue who she is as I snagged the publicity pic from the website that sells/makes the snow rakes.
