stone guard

We attached a 1/16", 2' X 8' chrome, aluminum diamond plate to lower front as a stone shield. The piece was fabricated by Joseph Fazzio, Inc. Glassboro, NJ 08028. (856)881-3185. Joseph Fazzio Inc. Cost was 54.00 plus 2 tubes of Liquid Nails for metal. Sue and I installed in 1/2 hr. We picked up as fabricator is close by but they do ship. We thought it ads a little pizzaz as well as serving a purpose , do you think we took something away from the originality of the Sunline Sue & Bob2011-08-13_09-29-56_751.jpg

Looks great. I have been wanting to do that but hadn't figured out just how to do it nor where to get the plate. Good job. Thanks for the photos also.

Make sure you give fabricator exact measurements (not just 2X8 so it's a perfect fit and use Liquid Nails for metal.

Did you seal along the edges in anyway.

Top slips under TT siding about 1/4" where the natural break is that changes angel of front of trailer and fits snug along insides of TT side moldings. I left about 1" on bottom to leave the original screws exposed. That is why exact measurements are important. I applied the Liquid Nails with a caulk gun leaving about an inch around outside bare to avoid glue squishing out when pressed. The glue takes about 8-12 hrs. to fully set up so I used some lumber propped against panel to hold pressure on it.

Lower front of TT was left intact, nothing removed, placed 1/16" plate right over existing siding so I figured no sealing was needed.

I thought maybe water would weaken the Liquid Nail if it got behind the Diamond Plate, also I wondered if you put any fasteners just in case the Liquid Nail would loosen. Just a thought.

My Sunline was equipped with a diamond plate stoneguard at the factory and it is screwed on with hex head screws.

I used Liquid Nails Polyurethane, touted as "water proof" "extreme temperature resistant" "outdoor use " "for use on metal, marble, blocks, steel joints" "lasts 20 years or more". I was trying to avoid using screws if possible. Maybe I should use 4 or 6 screws as insurance? It has been two days setting up now and there is no way I am able to remove the panel using my own strength.

Here's mine, I ordered it from the factory and I don't recall how it was installed, BUT I believe it was with the hex head screws.

I ordererd my diamond plate from Diamond life gear today. It was 49 for a 2'X8' piece and 4 dollars to cut it to exact dimensions. It should be here next week so I can install it. I'll take pics and post. If your looking for a rock guard, they have them in several colors pus brushed and shinny. They call it " Trailer Stone Guard MX™ "
