Stinky Slinky carrier

I recently replaced my "Stinky Slinky " with a Rhino Flex sewer hose and the large end doesn't fit my 4 inch bumper which I found out is 1/4 inch smaller than some other 4 inch bumpers. After seeing the excellent carriers by John and Kitty I finally settled on using 5 inch plastic fence post from Home Depot. Lowes shows a 4 3/4 inch post on their website but didn't have any in stock. HD also had a nice looking post cap for the post, cheap.

A 1 inch wood bit made a couple of nice finger holes in the cap and cut cleanly through the plastic. To hold the cap in place I used a 5/16 by 6 inch carriage bolt. I used a grinding wheel to put a bevel on the end to make it easier to drop in the slot and ground a ring on the bolt to hold a "hitch pin clip". The hitch pin clip shown here is an "Ergo Clip", it was on clearence at Lowes. I think a wooden spring clip clothes pin would work too. The 5/16 woodworking bit made a clean cut in the plastic for the bolt.

I played with a few ideas to hold it to the bumper and knew I needed to raise it to clear the u-bolts that hold the spare to the bumper. I attached a 3/4 inch thick block to the post, near the ends, with pop rivets thinking I could tie it to the bumper. After I did that I decided to use a T-bolt and 1/4 inch hex cap screw through the post and bumper. That required a 5/15 hole in the bumper and a 1/4 inch hole in the wood block and post. It holds everything secure and doesn't intrude in either the plastic post or the metal bumper and makes for easy removal for cleaning the back of the camper.

I have a collapsible carrier for the sewer hose when set up but also carry a few pieces of thin wall PVC sewer pipe, cut in half, for longer runs. They make a nice slide out tray for the hose and fit nicely in the 5 inch fence post.

Great job Gene,

This site is amazing, when someone thinks of a neat, useful gizmo and it gets posted here, it seems that there is always another way to mod or improve it.

Gotta love this site and all the wonderful, handy, creative people that are members.

It sure is a great site. I got that fence post idea from the pictures you posted. It is nice having a place to steal ideas .... errr ... Share ideas.

No "stealing" involved at all. I post things that I do so others can see my projects and hopefully I have created something that is useful so others might be able to use/improve it too.

Also, just a reminder that the "projects" that I have posted about were done totally by me, unless it has been done since last August 'til now. Plus, you also have to remember that I don't have a "JohnB" workshop in my yard, just some of the basic power tools.

Just the other day I took the hanging closet next to the bathroom sink and installed 2 shelves. The closet will serve a much more useful purpose as a linen closet. It also now houses the shop vac that we keep on board. I have pictures, just need to get them posted.

Oh yes!!!! That Miss Kitty is a mod Queen second to none and has tackled some real complex mod’s I might add. I have seen here traveling work shop of tools and she has me beat in the mobile arena 10# to 1…

My gosh the stuff just kept coming out of that cargo hole….. I think she has the stuff to do a complete engine over haul in there…. And that was when she had the T2499…

And now she has a 5er….

Yes the pics and sharing on this site are the best. Even if you do not use the mod exactly, it sparks other ideas. I have borrowed many a Kitty mod before. And now I have a Gene mod tucked away for a lonely summer day.

AND...on that rare occasion, she has to farm out the mod work. I remember that one time when she had to recruit five guys to get an awning cradle installed in an afternoon. Now there's Gary, who can do that much in an afternoon by himself!

Is this 5" fencepost an outside dimension? If it's inside, no way it would fit on my T-1550. I would like to do the exact same thing, but I have maybe 4 3/4 inches between the trailer and spare tire carrier. And that would be a squeeze! I'll keep a tape measure in the pick-up and do some checking. Very cool idea!

Yes, mine measures 5" outside dimension. I noticed on the Lowes website they have a 4 3/4" post and a 4" post.

I have a 6" space between my spare tire upright and the back of the coach so it fits well.

4 3/4 might do it Gene. If I compress the back of the trailer enough, it would sure be a good tight fit! I just threw the measuring tape in the pickup and will check into dimensions over the next few days. Got my hands full!

That is tight! You might get another 1/4" by putting a spacer between the carrier and the bumper. The brackets that hold my bumper are longer so the bumper has 1 or 2 inches space behind the trailer. It was enough space to let me put a bungee cord around my fake grass carpet and the bumper.

I measured it earlier Gene, and compressing it as much as possible got 4 3/4", so yes it is tight, but I'm going to pursue it anyways. I need to hit Lowes tomorrow and if they don't have will hit Home Depot Monday. When I was at Home Depot before work today, seems to me they had 4 3/4" too, but I was looking for 5" and found it. It was only when I got home tonight and looked closely that I got a tape out and measured it. Our next trip is a nine or ten day jaunt in mid to late July. I'd like to figure this out by then.

We just bought this '83 T-1550 last month and had it out once for a weekend excursion. I had never used a sewer hose before, so this was an experience in a number of ways. Over time, a number of things will change. I think this is a great idea, and appreciate you posting it.
